Este último volume corresponde ao prólogo dessa obra tripartida e é apresentado pelo próprio Papa Bento XVI como uma «"antecâmara" dos dois volumes anteriores sobre a figura e a mensagem de Jesus de Nazaré».

Au dire de l'auteur, son livre "L'enfance de Jésus" n'est pas le troisième tome de son étude magistrale sur Jésus de Nazareth, mais bien "une porte d'entrée" dans les deux autres tomes.
