  • Summary

  • Welcome wine lovers! Join Giuseppe Paternoster, Silver Pin Sommelier, in this week's episode of Winderland, as we embark on a thrilling adventure to the captivating wine regions of Chile. Get ready to switch to adventure mode, grab a glass of your favorite wine, and let yourself be transported to South America’s gem, Chile.

Chile is renowned not just for its rugged and wild landscapes, such as Patagonia and the Atacama Desert, but also for its exquisite wine scene. Concentrated mostly near the capital of Santiago, between the Andes Mountains and the Pacific Coast, Chile's central wine valleys offer unforgettable wines and enchanting views. Sip on the country’s signature varietals, including robust Red Carmenere and crisp Sauvignon Blanc, against the backdrop of sprawling vineyards and forest-covered mountains.

For the red wine aficionados, Colchagua Valley is a must-visit. Located two hours south of Santiago, this region is famous for its inky red wines like Carmenere, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Merlot. Explore the innovative, gravity-fed wineries and stay at luxury villas nestled right on the vineyard properties. Discover premier Colchagua reds from historic producers such as Casa La Postolla, Vieux Manette, and Neyen.

Venture into the peaceful Cachapoal Valley, situated between Maipo to the north and Colchagua to the south. This off-the-radar region is a haven for true wine lovers. The avant-garde vineyard Vigna Vic, with its futuristic architecture and underground tasting rooms, offers an unforgettable wine tasting experience. Additionally, Anakena winery provides a unique twist by naming its wines after different indigenous groups in Chile, South America, and Easter Island.

Maipo Valley, the birthplace of Chilean wine, is another highlight. This region, with nearly 30 wineries, is known for its historical significance and picturesque beauty. Taste exquisite wines at some of Chile’s oldest wineries, including Santa Rita, Concha y Toro, and Uduraga. Discover the fascinating legend of the devil living in one of Concha y Toro’s cellars and explore the region’s rich history and heritage.

Heading west along Route 68, you’ll find the white wine paradise of Casablanca Valley. Benefiting from the Pacific's cooling maritime influence, this region produces refreshing white wines such as Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, and light reds like Pinot Noir. With the coastal city of Valparaiso and its UNESCO neighborhoods nearby, Casablanca Valley makes for an ideal day trip.

Chile’s wine valleys, running from north to south, are easily navigable, making day trips from Santiago a breeze. Highways like Route 68 and the Panamerica Highway connect the capital to these enchanting regions effortlessly.

Thank you for joining us on this magical journey through Chile’s wine regions. Stay tuned for our next adventure in Winderland. Ciao!
