  • What’s in your lunch box? Rey Franco
    Nov 4 2024
Feeding of the 5 Thousand John 6:9-13 9 “Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?” 10 Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” There was plenty of grass in that place, and they sat down (about five thousand men were there). 11 Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish. 12 When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, “Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.” 13 So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten. Out of thousands of people in the crowds there was one boy who had his lunchbox with him and Jesus used it to do a miracle with. The question this morning is what is in your spiritual lunchbox this morning? Growing up especially in elementary school days I can remember wondering what is in my lunchbox. Genesis 18:19 19 For I have chosen him, so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just, so that the Lord will bring about for Abraham what he has promised him.” God chose Abraham because He knew He could trust him to put something in his children that would outlast him. That was the great ingredient God was looking for in humankind. The number one characteristic he was looking for was if Abraham would pass on what he had—his faith, his trust in God—to his children. There is 5 quick points I have this morning I want to share with you and when it comes to packing our spiritual lunchbox and the first is… 1. Faith in God’s promises Genesis 17:1-7 17 When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am God Almighty[a]; walk before me faithfully and be blameless. 2 Then I will make my covenant between me and you and will greatly increase your numbers.” 3 Abram fell facedown, and God said to him, 4 “As for me, this is my covenant with you: You will be the father of many nations. 5 No longer will you be called Abram[b]; your name will be Abraham,[c] for I have made you a father of many nations. 6 I will make you very fruitful; I will make nations of you, and kings will come from you. 7 I will establish my covenant as an everlasting covenant between me and you and your descendants after you for the generations to come, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you. 2. Faith is an action Genesis 22:3 Early the next morning Abraham got up and loaded his donkey. He took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac. James 2:21-24 3. Faith is fruitful Galatians 5:22-23 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 4. Faith is taught We see that Abraham passed down his faith to children and grandchildren Hebrews 11:17-22 17 By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had embraced the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son, 18 even though God had said to him, “It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.”[c] 19 Abraham reasoned that God could even raise the dead, and so in a manner of speaking he did receive Isaac back from death. 20 By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau in regard to their future. 21 By faith Jacob, when he was dying, blessed each of Joseph’s sons, and worshiped as he leaned on the top of his staff. 22 By faith Joseph, when his end was near, spoke about the exodus of the Israelites from Egypt and gave instructions concerning the burial of his bones. John 13:34-35 5. Faith is fulfilling John 6:12-13
