  • Trump vs. Biden: Make Debates Great Again
    Jul 3 2024
According to recent polls, 70%+ of Americans don’t want Donald Trump or Joe Biden running for President. So, how did we get here? This week, Keith and Patrick join up to discuss golf handicaps--uhh, wait, we mean the first Presidential debate of 2024. They dissect the ways that TV and social media have changed how we judge debates and made them far less substantive overall. And why can’t Presidential candidates tell the truth? Does our tribalistic culture even care about truth anymore? Then they get into the question many are wondering: Why are these two candidates our options? They break down the institutional failure of today’s political parties and how politicians care more about their personal brands. Plus, were people really surprised by Biden’s condition? Who do they dub as the biggest loser from the debate? And how should we move forward as Christians? Listen now! • Why Should Christians Care About Criminal Justice? with Matt Martens
    Jun 26 2024
When you hear about someone in prison, what typically goes through your head? Maybe it’s, “Good, I’m sure they deserve it,” or maybe it’s more, “What if they’re unfairly there?” Or, maybe you make no assumptions at all. Which is the correct Christian perspective on criminal justice? That’s what we’re discussing today when Matt Martens joins Patrick on the pod! Matt is a trial lawyer, a former federal prosecutor, a legal ethics professor, and an award-winning author of “Reforming Criminal Justice: A Christian Proposal.” He starts by explaining why Christians should care about the criminal justice system in America and provides examples of why the current system is broken. He shares how the Bible offers several guideposts for loving our neighbors as it relates to this area. Plus, is the death penalty biblical? What’s the difference between Christian and pagan justice? How should Christians seek true, biblical reform of the criminal justice system? Listen now! Have you benefitted personally from Truth Over Tribe or seen it have a positive effect on someone you know? have you used the podcast, book, or blog as a catalyst for conversation on polarizing topics? • Marriage: The Recipe for Happiness with Brad Wilcox
    Jun 19 2024
Fewer Americans are getting married today than ever in our nation’s history. But why? And is it really that big of a deal? Today, Keith sits down with Brad Wilcox, Professor of Sociology and author of “Get Married,” to learn why society should care about preserving our country’s most fundamental institution. Brad shares some of the reasons that people are being influenced to stay single or to wait until later in life to marry. He introduces the “Masters of Marriage,” or the four groups who are getting married and staying married the longest. He uses research to prove why married couples are happier than their counterparts and how marriage positively affects men in particular. Plus, what about dating apps? Shouldn’t these help increase the marriage rate? Is the idea of finding a soulmate all a myth? Do couples who cohabitate enjoy the same benefits as married couples? If you think you’re ready to listen, say “I do!” Have you benefitted personally from Truth Over Tribe or seen it have a positive effect on someone you know? have you used the podcast, book, or blog as a catalyst for conversation on polarizing topics? Sunday Soulfood

Having raised my kids in the same era as this young woman, I remember the pressure on parents to keep your children from the world.
I was scared all the time. At 66, I relate to everything Ms. Billups said. I seemed like a frothing Democrat when I cheered and played Ray Charles' Georgia and Hit The Road Jack on Facebook the day after the election. I also share the POV that being pro life encompasses more than abortion; and I marched for George Floyd. as rich as this nation is, we should have good schools, healthcare, safe neighborhoods, and better elder care. The Catholics are better at this than the Protestants, just saying. I'm appalled at the militant pro-gun propagandists and the lack of concern for the earth.
I don't view these opinions as being a lefty at all. I view myself as a grateful steward and proponent of safety for everyone. I liked her very much.
