• Hugh Hewitt: Netanyahu Has Decided to Protect His People
    Oct 4 2024

Thing are changing rapidly in the Middle East.

Israel has virtually destroyed Hamas. The campaign against Hezbollah began in earnest with the pager attack. Then we saw the elimination of Hassan Nasrallah and his entire top leadership—along with the destruction of vast amounts of stockpiles of what supposed to be the A-Team of terrorism.

Israel is—no doubt—destroying in a few weeks what Iran has been building for decades.

The mullahs in Iran are threatened.

The ballistic missile attack we saw earlier this week was a move of weak and desperate regime.

After prime Minister Netanyahu’s July visit to Congress and his snub by the possible next president— when Kamala Harris skipped it—it seems clear that the PM returned to Israel resolved to prosecute Israel’s seven front war on his terms, not those of the United States.

Whatever Biden and Harris said to Netanyahu in July, unless it was “Go get ’em,” the Israeli Prime Minister has decided to protect his people.

May God give Israel a swift and decisive victory.

  • Carol Platt Liebau: A Star Was Born
    Oct 3 2024

Republicans haven't left a debate this happy since the second Reagan Mondale face off in 1984.

Despite facing three opponents, Tim Walz plus two hostile moderators, J.D. Vance acquitted himself flawlessly.

Of course, the questions were seeded with gratuitous fact checks and frame from the left. They focused on beltway obsessions like climate change in January 6th, ignoring topics like China, Ukraine, and the flood devastating the southeast. Even so, Walz was overmatched. He looked by turns, confused, afraid, and sad. If his mission was to win over men, he completely failed. He didn't look like a guy you'd want anywhere near the situation room at a moment of crisis.

By contrast, Vance demonstrated complete mastery of the facts while coming across as likable, relatable, and humane. And he offers a model for the Republican Party in the way he talked about abortion.

    A star was born.

  • Carol Platt Liebau: The American Left vs. First Amendment
    Oct 2 2024

This November, our First Amendment right to free speech is on the ballot.

At a World Economic Forum panel last week, former Secretary of State John Kerry said the quiet part out loud. He hates the free speech social media allows. Here’s what he said: “they're putting out disinformation, our First Amendment stands as a major block to be able to just, you know, hammer it out of existence.”

    Kerry’s not alone.

For elites, free speech is a problem because it makes it impossible for them to impose their narrative on the rest of us.

Kamala Harris shares Kerry’s contempt for the First Amendment. Her deputy campaign manager worked for Biden, forcing social media companies to censor covid information. As attorney general of California, she lobbied the then-CEO of Twitter to kick Donald Trump off the platform.

Remember: the freedom to speak is the freedom to think. And vote accordingly.

  • Ed Morrissey: Israel Sends Warning to Iran Via Yemen
    Oct 1 2024

Israel has a message for the Middle East: The gloves are off. The days of strategic restraint and symmetric responses are over. After demolishing Hezbollah leadership in less than a fortnight, the Israelis destroyed Houthi power and shipping infrastructure nearly simultaneously in response to a ballistic missile attack.

That sent a clear message to Iran, the patron of both terror networks along with Hamas and Islamic Jihad: Israel intends to respond with overwhelming force if attacked, and it will take aim at the infrastructure that Tehran cannot afford to lose. Their oil production provides the mullahs with the income necessary to maintain their brutal grip on the Iranian people, and Israel already demonstrated their ability to hit their nuclear-development sites in a demonstration raid on Isfahan earlier this summer.

Benjamin Netanyahu made it clear over the last two weeks that he has no intention of playing along with frozen conflicts. The only way to end a war against terrorists and tyrants is to win it—and to convince them not to start wars in the first place.

  • Hugh Hewitt: The Biden Harris Middle East Policy Is in Flames
    Sep 27 2024

Israel has been on the receiving end of more than 10,000 incoming rockets, drones, and missiles since October 8th of last year when Hezbollah unprovoked began its war against Israel in the north of Israel.

The Biden/Harris Middle East policies is in flames, as is the region. All that Vice President Harris can say about Israel and the Southern War, Hamas, is “We must get a deal done!” She said it a few times. What's she going to say about Israel and Lebanon?

What former President Trump has said, consistently, is that Israel needs to win—and fast.

We know that Iran has targeted Trump himself as well as his campaign. Trump, of course, ran the “maximum pressure” campaign against Tehran, which had nearly bankrupted that regime until Biden and Harris ended that campaign and began not only to ease sanctions, but unfroze billions in Iranian assets.

Refunded, Iran has set about creating terror proxies everywhere. Ayatollah Emami wants no part of Trump 2.0. The Mullahs are clearly hoping for a Harris-Waltz win.

Americans ought to think about national security and “peace through strength.”

The choice is clear: Donald Trump.

  • Carol Platt Liebau: Our Dishonest System
    Sep 25 2024

This is Carol Platt Liebau for Townhall.com.

The union that represents IRS employees has just endorsed Kamala Harris—and it’s not surprising. Along with President Biden, she’s delivered 80 billion dollars in new funding and 80 thousand new agents to scour Americans’ tax returns.

She’s done a lot for them … with your tax money.

In the end, that’s what’s alarming about government unions endorsing candidates in the first place. Politicians earn their support by supporting big government—through spending your money. In return, unelected, unaccountable bureaucrats become their supporters.

It's a cozy arrangement for everyone but the people who pay for it: You and me.

Federal bureaucrats are supposed to work—not for politicians—but for the American people. That means they’re supposed to serve whomever we elect, fairly and without favoritism. These endorsements reveal the naked truth: Instead, government workers have become partisans.

It's a dishonest system, and it needs reform.

  • Hugh Hewitt: The 2024 Election Is on Us
    Sep 24 2024

The 2024 Election is on us. Voting has begun in Pennsylvania—this weekend in Virginia. The race is tied, and I mean tied.

I’ve been emphasizing “the choice,” voters must make—and that it’s underway, even as it’s still being debated across the country and people who vote right up through election day.

That choices between the two tickets, Trump Vance, Harris Waltz, but also between Trump's national security team and his 3,000 other political appointees, and Harris and her national security team, and her 3,000 other political appointees.

Trump's appointees will be center right to conservative men and women, many of whom we know. Harris's appointees, names almost wholly unknown, but virtually all radicals run from the left to the way left to radical. That's why San Francisco, Oakland, and Berkeley are in such ruins. They are all run by extreme “progressives,” which really means radicals.

Yes: You’re choosing a president. But you’re choosing an entire executive branch.

I’m Hugh Hewitt … and I’m choosing Trump.

  • Carol Platt Liebau: Garland’s Politicized DOJ
    Sep 23 2024

Attorney General Merrick Garland has just made a speech denouncing alleged efforts to turn his handling of the Justice Department into a “political weapon.”

Garland doesn’t have a leg to stand on.

I guess we’re safe to presume he wasn’t referencing Kamala Harris’ attacks on Robert Hur, when Hur didn’t prosecute Joe Biden’s mishandling of classified documents because of the president’s mental decline.

In truth: His Justice Department is the first to prosecute the president’s political opponents. His DOJ brought a classified documents case against Donald Trump while letting Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden off the hook. He’s refused to prosecute violent pro-Hamas and BLM rioters but threw the book at peaceful abortion clinic and J6 protesters. And his FBI has gone after parents who simply protested at school board meetings.

Garland’s DOJ is the most political in history. And everybody knows it.
