Three Stories: Homilies by Fr. Dave Ayotte (1960-2021)

By: Fr. Dave Ayotte ~ St. Monica Catholic Community
  • Summary

  • Sharing “three stories” was a hallmark of Fr. Dave’s inspiring homilies. So, with a wink and a smile, like him, here is a collection of his weekly homilies or snippets of wisdom we have collected during the time he was Associate Pastor at St. Monica Catholic Community. Fr. Dave was born in Montreal, Canada in 1960 and moved from Montreal to Los Angeles when he was a young boy. He had an insatiable thirst for learning and acquiring knowledge as evidenced later by his four Masters’ degrees, a doctorate in Systemic Theology and a deep passion for the writings of Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, SJ. Fr. Dave fortified relationships, families, communities and, most importantly, our Church. In so beautifully following Jesus’ instructions, Dave tirelessly and selflessly gave all he had to give and invites us to do the same for one another. Fr. David John Ayotte peacefully passed to our dear Lord on Nov. 29, 2021.

How can I deepen this relationship with Christ. How do I hear the voice of God?

The gospel this week talks about the hypocrisy of shining everything on the outside, while being called to be real on the inside as well. Our patron St. Monica is the perfect example, talking to God about her struggles, shedding tears for her son Augustine. We are called this year to ask ourselves: How can I deepen my relationship with Christ?

And to the people of the Diaspra, watching online: We are a Eucharistic people, and thus, we need to receive Christ physically. Even with the fear of the pandemic, consider coming to church, even if it's outside in the Duval Center or our outdoor Mass, to receive Communion. And for the rest of us, 1/2 of the Church hasn't returned back yet. Give them a call. We walk together!  The communion we receive, we become.  St. Monica's son said "become what you receive"

Fr. Dave walked over to the park to offer confessions. He reminds us that this year, we can't stay in our walls. Yes, our building is shiny and beautiful, but it is about the faithful. In this upcoming year, speak with the Lord, Outside and Inside. We must carry Christ to the ends of the earth!
