Now a social worker in Nashville, David leads small groups for The Redeemed and talks with us about his journey’s impact on him as a man and a father and offers insights into how men can build community through ministries like The Redeemed while remaining active in their churches.

Today, Jay serves as head of the “Dream Team” volunteer program at Church of the Highlands’ Grants Mill campus and shares what he’s learned from the men who walked with him on his spiritual journey: communication in marriage, navigating the challenges of ministry, and leading effectively—in both good times and the bad.

  • Being Honest About What’s in Our Hearts with Pedro LaTorre
    Oct 24 2024

For the longest time, Pedro LaTorre avoided addressing what was in his heart. Childhood abuse and blaming himself for his parents’ divorce drove Pedro to perform as a way to prove his worth. But when a major arm injury prematurely ended his baseball career, Pedro’s search for a new identity drove him to engage more deeply with his feelings. In the process, he built the kind of meaningful relationship with God that he’d desired for a long time.

Listen in as Pedro discusses the problems we cause by dealing superficially with our feelings—as well as the tremendous rewards we can reap when we fully address what’s in our hearts.

  • To Lead Others, Figure Out How to Lead Yourself
    Oct 17 2024

This week on the Redeemed Man podcast, Redeemed director Nate Dewberry sits down with his own pastor, Kyle Jackson, from Church of the Highlands in Columbus, Georgia. Kyle shares openly about the temptations he gave into as a young man and how he found his way back to God. He offers practical advice for men struggling with their faith, searching for purpose, or questioning their worth in ministry. While reading the Bible and attending church are key, Kyle emphasizes the importance of building relationships with people who live out their faith and are guided by the Holy Spirit—these connections, he says, are vital for developing leadership skills and seeing God’s work in others.

  • Finding Lessons—and Hope—from Tragedy
    Oct 10 2024

It was supposed to be a leisurely ride home from an ice cream parlor for Bryan and Lynn Koch on their beloved Harley-Davidson—but that 2015 ride ended in tragedy at the hands of a drunk driver, costing Lynn her life and Bryan his left leg. As Bryan and his three sons worked through unimaginable grief, though, they found comfort in their deep faith, along with lessons about forgiveness and hope. Bryan, a pastor with more than three decades of experience, related some of those lessons in his 2017 book I’m All Right—and he shares them with Nate Dewberry in this week’s episode of the Redeemed Man podcast. Anyone who’s found himself wondering “God, why me?” in the midst of tragedy will find plenty to be inspired by in Bryan and his story.

  • Living Beyond Wins and Losses
    Oct 3 2024

If you’ve ever watched a pro athlete making a sign of the cross and pointing to the sky after catching a long TD bomb or smashing a homer, and asked yourself, “Does God really care what we’re doing out on the field?”, this week’s podcast is for you. Guest Jonathan Carr, a former collegiate golfer who’s now a coach and teacher, says we might be asking ourselves the wrong question—what we should really be asking is whether we care enough about what God’s doing. Jonathan and Nate Dewberry spend this episode discussing the intersections between faith and sports, and how we can give glory to God even in the heat of competition. When we remind ourselves there are actually things more important than winning, Jonathan says, we lessen our own anxiety, perform more consistently, and live a less arrogant, more Christlike existence.
