Welcome to The Luxe Pharmacist Podcast - Residency Series!
I’m so excited to be adding to The Residency Series with these Match episodes at such a pivotal time of the year for those pursing residency.
If you don’t already know this about me, back in 2019 as a student I got the devastating news that I had not matched to a PGY1 residency in Phase I and thankfully I did end up matching to an incredible residency in Phase II.
Because of my experience I am on a mission to break the stigma of what it means to not match and hopefully give you all some really great insights and advice that you can apply to your personal pharmacy journey.
These match stories or rather un-matching stories were submitted by pharmacists with all different backgrounds, training and journeys but one common thread that no matter how twisted, broken or windy their paths…everything worked out just the way it was meant to happen in the end.
These pharmacists are proof that there is never just one path to a certain career in pharmacy and I can’t wait to share these stories with you, so here we go!
The Luxe Pharmacist Podcast is thrilled to welcome our guests Veronica & Kasie! Both incredible women applied to residency in Phase I and II during their last year of pharmacy school and after not matching in either phase entered retail pharmacy after graduating. Here's the plot twist though, neither Veronica or Kasie are working in retail pharmacy today! They both leveraged their retail experience, and with some persistence and hard work, took their careers in completely different directions. How did they get to where they are today? Listen to find out!
Veronica graduated in 2019 with her Doctor of Pharmacy from University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Veronica was a CVS intern as a student and transitioned into a float position after graduating. Her background and experience is so fascinating! Since her float position, Veronica has worked as a prior authorization pharmacist, moved across the country, worked in another retail setting and now is the lead pharmacist in charge of starting a Transitions of Care program at a hospital in FL and absolutely loves her job.
Kasie graduated in 2018 with her Doctor of Pharmacy from Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Kasie worked in a Target CVS after graduation and then found a hybrid inpatient/outpatient position at a small community hospital. Kasie is now full time as an inpatient staff pharmacist, and don't let the word staff fool you, her role is incredibly clinically focused each and every day as she covers areas like the oncology infusion satellite, emergency department and NICU.
