If cinema is an inward reflection on society, then horror is a pandora’s box of history’s deepest and darkest secrets. The Great War is arguably the pinnacle of humanity’s wickedness. World War One’s brutality didn’t make horror entertainment. It made it a barbaric reality. There is no question that World War One is one of the biggest influences on the horror genre as it is today.
