Journey on the green path to as we learn to reconnect to the planet and tap into the inherent common trait of our humanity. Hearing voices from marginalized communities who have been left behind in the systems. Listening to individuals as they share their stories and the impacts they are making in their own way. Join me in discovering the intersectionality of life by focusing on reconnecting as human beings and finding ways to heal ourselves and our planet.

    Guest Speaker: Sky Yarbrough

In this episode we will be speaking to local artist Sky Yarbrough and how she uses her art to address social injustices, sustainability and living with a disability as a woman of color in Colorado.

Her work centers around activism and her art seeks to paint pictures on top of the dominant culture. She has thirty years of photography experience and this opportunity to capture various themes form the basis of her art. Her frontline work focuses on the contrast between cultures and class. As a woman of color (black and Native American experience) from a mixed ancestry and lineage living with disabilities, Sky is using her art to express the many intersectionalities she has observed throughout her life and how it is still relevant today.

She has authored five books and champions the disenfranchised through her family’s foundation, The Webb Family Foundation. She is the perfect person to kick off our special series and we can think of no one better to bring us into the world of disabilities than her. She will surely share some insightful perspectives that we can all use or have better understanding in this normally invisible population.

The green path to connecting to the planet and tapping into the inherent common trait of humanity. Hearing voices from communities who have been left behind in the systems and coming together to explore the creative solutions to save ourselves and our Mother Earth. Guest Speaker: Dr. Shauna Shapiro

In this episode we will be speaking to clinical psychologist and PhD, Dr. Shauna Shapiro, a best-selling author, and internationally recognized expert in mindfulness and self-compassion. She is a professor at Santa Clara University and has published over 150 papers and three critically acclaimed books, that have been translated into 16 languages. Shauna has presented her research to the King of Thailand, the Danish Government, Bhutan’s Gross National Happiness Summit, and the World Council for Psychotherapy, as well as to Fortune 100 Companies including Google, Cisco Systems and LinkedIn. Shauna is a Fellow of the Mind and Life Institute, co-founded by the Dalai Lama. Her TEDx Talk, The Power of Mindfulness, has been viewed over 1.5 million times.

As the pandemic continues, millions are dealing with isolation, loneliness, and tremendous loss, me included. The disruptions are calling for unity, if not our humanity. It is a time for healing and compassion. The landscape is calling for reparations and looking at ways that we can heal from the history of pain and trauma, we are all experiencing right now. Let us take a moment of silence to contemplate, "What does healing look like? How can we use mindfulness to be more present to what is happening around us and within us during the pandemic?" Let us explore the topic with Dr. Shauna Shapiro on how mindfulness can help us navigate these turbulent times and find peace within ourselves while acknowledging the humanity in others.

As the number of cases of COVID-19 increases, so does the associated anxiety. For the general public, the mental health effects of COVID-19 are as essential to address as are the physical health effects. And for the one in five who already have mental health conditions – or the one in two who are at risk of developing them – we need to take personal, professional, and policy measures now to address them. To aid individuals and communities during this time, MHA has compiled a range of resources and information. You can learn more about mental health and COVID-19 from our blogs and webinars.

YAYA is a collective for folks driven by wonder and responsibility to the world. We are moved to action by the ancestral wisdom of communities of color. We are committed to uplift and showcase those wisdoms through whatever means possible using the talents of our members: animation series, black-led regenerative farming on the island of Kiskeya and equity work in the psychedelic movement. We are here to serve in joy, creativity, humour and futuristic ancestral spirit. Our hope is to continue exploring and experiment new ways to connect work to justice. Fun Fact: YAYA is the Taino word for Creator God, or Spirit of Spirit!
