  • Day 90: Christ Descended into Hell (2025)
    Mar 31 2025
Have you ever said the words from the Creed at Mass, “he descended into hell” and wondered, “Really? Jesus did? Why?” The Catechism shares the secrets of this line from the Creed and shows us how Jesus’ descent into hell “brings the Gospel message of salvation to complete fulfillment.” Fr. Mike makes it clear to us that Jesus did not come to save only the righteous who happened to be alive during his time here on earth, but he came to save all those righteous men and women who came before him and would come after him. Today's readings are Catechism paragraphs 631-637. This episode has been found to be in conformity with the Catechism by the Institute on the Catechism, under the Subcommittee on the Catechism, USCCB. • Day 89: Jesus Christ Was Buried (2025)
    Mar 30 2025
When he was crucified, Jesus experienced a real human death, the separation of his soul from his body. Because of his divinity, though, Jesus’ body did not see corruption, and his body and soul were reunited in the Resurrection. The risen Christ is the meeting point of death and life. We learn that as Christians, in Baptism, we die to sin, are buried with Christ, and then in him, we rise to new life. Today’s readings are Catechism paragraph 624-630. This episode has been found to be in conformity with the Catechism by the Institute on the Catechism, under the Subcommittee on the Catechism, USCCB. Every Christian needs this

I was baptized Anglican, a cross between Catholic and Protestant. I have leaned more Protestant and gather my learning from all the true trinitarian denominations. I am amazed at this Catechism and have gotten the book too. Every Christian can gain so much understanding from this podcast and the Catechism. And for all the Catholics I have run across who say they are not really being "fed" by the church... we'll dig into the Catechism as an adult and see how much you gain from it!

Wonderful journey begins!

I have been waiting for this to come out ever since I first heard it might be done. The enthusiasm of Fr. Mike Schmitz is perfect to accompany what might otherwise drift into dry pedagogy at times. I find joy in learning about the Catholic faith in many ways by sharing the journey with Fr. Mike. I also trust him to be a conscientious guide who will ensure I consider aspects of the faith that, left to my own reading, I would likely ignore or not realize.

I can't wait to share this journey with other listeners and my mother and I plan to listen each day and reflect on what we learn.

What a great way to start 2023!

Cradle Catholic for 58 years Learning Anew

I'm learning so much about the Church that I didn't learn in my years of Catholic school. I'm so glad I decided to listen to my twin sister and start this journey. It is increasing my faith and explaining so much about the Church that I have always loved. I restarted the Bible in a Year as well which has made it even better.

The only drawback is the rapid speech of Fr. Mike so I have to stop and relisten as I take notes. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Today is day 88 and my audible app only goes to day 87 so the app isn't getting the updates. I'm having to go to Youtube to get today's excerpt. It happened last week, as well.

Thank you Fr. Mike and Ascension Press for this amazing resource. I'm praying for you as you are praying for me!
