Acerca de esta escucha

Powered flight. Votes for women. Human sexuality. Mass migration. The psychology of dreams. The magic of the movies. Spies and detectives. Welcome to Stephen Fry’s Edwardian Secrets.

Perhaps thanks to TV period dramas, the popular imagination may picture the Edwardian era as an idyllic window between the wars, a time of manners and tea on the lawn. But below the surface lies a frenetic and often bizarre age where scientific leaps forward went hand in hand with belief in fairies, and secrets of sex, lies and murder simmered.

Across 12 episodes, in this sequel to his Victorian Secrets, Stephen Fry uncovers some of the startling and unexpected hidden histories of the Edwardians.

This original podcast is 8 episodes in total, please begin with “Ep 1: A Hard Act to Follow”.

This is entertaining; funny; educational: easy to listen one at a time or just let it roll and listen to them all ~one after another
To listen to anyone else narrate I don't know if it would have been any of the above. I WANT MORE!!

Engaging , throughly researched reach back into a period that was a tipping point in the world's social-political evolution. Well produced, as well. This one, you'll want to share.

Entertainingly well presented Edwardian history that if you pay close attention, may seem familiar to current headlines.
Stephen Fry's performance drew in my 21, 16, and 9-year-olds as well, giving us something new to discuss and opening up the youngest to the idea that history need not be boring.

Beautifully done!

Love Stephen Fry, and loved the content of this podcast series. Informative about historical issues that are not taught or spoken about much…like racism, sexism, privilege and police brutality….
And there are those who say these issues are not institutional…

Learned interesting facts

Stephen Fry is quickly becoming my favorite source for infotainment which skews heavily on the side of real info and research.

Fry does it again

This makes history fun. Now its not for all ages as some content is definitely not something I would let my daughters listen to at 13. However there are certain episodes that are fine for them and having played one even they agreed that the history was fun tho perhaps I really need to make them sit down and watch James Bond to have a greater appreciation. the ties and twists is fascinating and honestly I couldn’t stop relating some of the stories to my supposedly history fascinated husband and to my kids. Thank you this is a part of history that is so often overlooked for Victorian times and it covers so many topics.

Wonderfully entertaining and great history lesson

absolutely unnecessary to have the gunshot/bomb etc in very beginning. extremely disruptive to listener. you don’t know where we are listening to these podcasts. driving. etc. no reason to startle people for melodrama

stupid opening sound effects
