• It's Hawk vs War Eagle as OU takes on Auburn in their 1st SEC road game.
    Sep 26 2024

On this episode of Sooner State of Mind, stoke levels are rising! Optimism is in the air. At the beginning of the year, if you told me JFA would be benched in his fourth start, I would have said you were smoking something. Yet here we are as the times are changing. It's now freshman sensation Michael Hawkins Jr. taking over at quarterback looking to channel his best Jamelle Holieway. Can Hawkins come in and save the season? It is a lot to put on the young man's shoulder, but this dude is built differently. He wants all the smoke, and on Saturday he's gonna try and prove it in front of 88,000 screaming fans. It is gonna be a crazy atmosphere, but if Hawkins can pull out the win for the Sooners, vibes will be high! Hopefully, we get to wash our victory over Auburn down with a tall cool glass of Georgia at Alabama. Either way, it will make for a tasty nightcap. • Can Michael Hawkins Jr. save the Sooners season?
    Sep 22 2024

On this episode of Sooner State of Mind, stoke levels are rising! Well, I wouldn't say stoke levels are rising after last night's game. The Sooners SEC home opener did not go according to plan. Josh Heupel and the Tennessee Vols came to Norman and beat our Sooners 25-15. It was not the result we were looking for, but now even more questions need to be answered. To put it mildly, Jackson Arnold struggled badly in this game, as did the entire offense. With less than a minute left in the first half of the game, Brent Venables had seen enough. JFA was benched and Michael Hawkins Jr. made his first meaningful appearance as a Sooner. While he did start a little slow, he did provide a spark and some electricity to a dormant offense. One thing became absolutely clear, this OU defense is too good to have a subpar offense. So moving forward, will Michael Hawkins be the starter? We will give our thoughts on that as well as recap some of the biggest games from the week in college football. • Can OU channel some Baker Mayfield Sooner Magic vs the Vols?
    Sep 18 2024

On this episode of Sooner State of Mind, stoke levels are rising! It is finally here, the moment we've all been waiting for. It is history in the making. The Sooners will host their first-ever SEC conference game. On Saturday Night, the #15 Oklahoma Sooners are hosting the #6 Tennessee Volunteers. Both teams come into this game undefeated and are looking for that first conference win. The storylines would be thick enough just for the magnitude alone. Throw in the history of the coaches and past games, and the subtext takes this game to another level. The Vols are led by Sooner legend and current head coach Josh Heupel. Heupel was instrumental in bringing National Championship #7 to Norman. In 2000 Heupel led the Sooners to a perfect 13-0 season culminating with a 13-2 Orange Bowl win over the Florida State Seminoles. Coach Heupel spent a little time on the OU sidelines as offensive coordinator before a bad breakup in 2015. Heupel returns to Norman with what may be his best Vols team to date. The high-powered Tennessee offense is led by red-shirt freshman quarterback sensation Nico Iamaleava. The Tennessee defense is one of the best in the country too. The Sooners are hoping to get some playmakers back for this one and will need all the help they can get to pull off the massive upset. We will let you know just what the Sooners will need to do to make it so. There are also some extra tasty games on the college football schedule. We will preview those as well. We also check in with a couple of former Sooners who are doing big things in the NFL! All that and more! • Can the Sooners ride the Green Wave to 3-0?
    Sep 12 2024

On this episode of Sooner State of Mind, stoke levels are rising! We've recovered from last week's drama and are moving on to greener pastures, or more like greener waves. The Sooners are set to host the Tulane Green Wave in their last game before Conference play. Tulane gave the Sooners all they could handle a few years ago, and now OU would like to return the favor. We will preview the big game and all the top games from Week 3 of the college football season. Game recognizes game, that's why Gracen Halton was named SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week. Halton's late safety preserved the win and helped the Sooners stay undefeated for at least one more week. We also check in with some injured Sooners and get updates from Brent Venables on who is and who isn't close to returning. We also check in with a couple of former Sooners who are doing big things in the NFL! All that and more! • OU's Gracen Halton puts a haltin' to a Houston upset!
    Sep 8 2024

On this episode of Sooner State of Mind, stoke levels are rising, just barely. Just like the OU win vs the Houston Cougars, just barely. The Sooners dominated in their first win as a member of the SEC. On Saturday Night it was anything but dominant. The Sooners needed some Sooner Magic, including a late safety by Gracen Halton to secure the 16-12 win over Willie Ftiz's Coogs. Even though the defense for the Sooners was outstanding, the offense was anything but. Even so, the Sooners remain undefeated on a day when upsets were brewing. There are many things to work on, but the main thing to take away is that the Sooners are still 2-0 with all their attainable goals in front of them. We will recap what went right and what went wrong. We will also check in with some teams that weren't quite as lucky. All that and more! • Houston, we have a problem. It's Danny Stutsman and the Oklahoma Sooners
    Sep 5 2024

On this episode of Sooner State of Mind, stoke levels are rising! The Sooners dominated in their first win as a member of the SEC. On Saturday, they look to improve to 2-0. The Sooners host a former conference foe the Houston Cougars. The Cougars did not play well last week and head coach Willie Fritz will have his Courgars focused on making sure that does not happen again this week. Last week's 51-3 win over the Temple Owls was good enough to move the Sooners up one spot in the AP Poll and three spots on the Coaches Poll. There were a couple of teams that got a ton of love from the AP writers and a couple that didn't. We will share our thoughts on that. There aren't a ton of great games on the college slate this week, but we will preview a handful of the best of them, including Texas at Michigan. The NFL kicks off this week. We will check in with the plethora of Sooners around the NFL. All that and more! It's time to get into a Sooner State of Mind! footballdudesla footballdudeslaIG footballdudesfacebook

  • The Sooners dominate Temple under the Friday Night lights!
    Aug 31 2024

On this episode of Sooner State of Mind, stoke levels are rising! The Sooners made their 2024 SEC debut under the Friday Night lights as they completely dominated the Temple Owls by a score of 51-3. We recap what went right, which was almost everything. We will also recap what did not go according to plan. Both of Jackson Arnold's new BFF's Deion Burks and Bauer Sharp lived up to their Spring Ball hype. We will tell you who else shined brightest on Friday Night. There is so much to be stoked about with this team, specifically on defense. Zac Alley had the boys flying around on their way to six turnovers, six sacks, and no touchdowns given up. Special teams were also pretty good, but I am sure we can find something to complain about. Either way, the first win is under their belts and it feels good to be sitting at 1-0. All that and more!
