  • Episode 110: More, Thomas! or A Chan for all Seasons tho
    Feb 9 2025

Paul, Giles, Rick and Richard return for the second half of their discussion about two stories with masterly intent - 3rd Doctor outing Colony in Space from Season 8, which we discussed last time and 10th Doctor story Utopia from Series 3, which forms the bulk of this episode's chat. We'll decide whether they have colonial style, or require colonic irrigation. And whether, in fact, it's basically the same story twice over.

Head over to https://www.bigfinish.com/, where we all love Paul's stories. His latest release is an Audio Novel called The Lord of Misrule featuring the Fourth Doctor, Romana, Jago and Litefoot and starring Jon Culshaw: https://www.bigfinish.com/releases/v/doctor-who-the-lord-of-misrule-3160

Rick posts on social media as @brickpandorica, where you can find fantastic pictures of his Lego models of Doctor Who moments. If this audio had been out in time we could have mentioned his appearance at the Calder Valley Brick Show. But if you missed that, he will also be at the Bricktastic show in Manchester on 22nd February.

Giles has 2 new children's books out, which you can find in all good bookshops and also at these links: Can We Live on Mars? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mind-Mappers-Mappers-Making-Difficult-Understand/dp/B0C65GDB4G/ and Spin to Survive: Deep Space Danger https://www.amazon.co.uk/Spin-Survive-Destiny-Pop-Out-Fortune/dp/0711287767/.

Richard's other podcast "If It's Hurting, It's not Working" is currently on hiatus, but it's a fun and informative look at work - why we work, how we work, and what makes a great job. And also what makes a great workplace, how to turn things round when we're not enjoying our work and, in the end, how we can all make our work better. For all episodes, go to https://ifhurtnotwork.podbean.com/ and https://ifhurtnot.work.

The Something Who logo, which features prominently on all our cover art was designed for us by Bea Garrido. She's a really talented artist, who you can find by following this link: https://beagarridoart.weebly.com/, where you can buy prints of some remarkable paintings of characters from Doctor Who.

The opening music is Three Guitars Mood 2 and, yes, that is Richard playing the ukulele and kazoo on possibly the worst ever version of the Doctor Who theme tune at the end.

  • Episode 108: The War Games in Colour
    Jan 3 2025

Happy New Year from Something Who.

Just before Christmas, on 23rd December 2024, a 90 minute colour version of the War Games was broadcast on BBC4 and made available in the BBC iPlayer. As with The Daleks before it, this 10 part black and white story has been edited into a shorter form and colourised to help bring it to life for a new generation.

And Something Who has managed to secure a return visit from two of the key members of the team who made it - Benjamin Cook, the Editor, and Rich Tipple, Lead Colourisation Artist. It's a great chat that goes into how and why a number of the creative choices were made, some of the difficulties involved in editing and colorising a story form the 1960s as well as many of the delights involved.

  • Episode 107: 2024 Highlights
    Dec 30 2024

As a companion to our Something Who 101, which has clips from the first 5 years of our podcast, it's time to share a few highlights from the past year of Something Who, which included our 100th episode. If you haven't heard us before, this will give you a flavour of our podcast. And if you have, here's a reminder.

And there's a lot to choose from. In addition to our regular presenting team of Richard, Paul and Giles, Rick rapidly became a fixture, and we had several appearances from Jess Jurkovic. Gav Rymill came back, Tim Burrows popped by for an episode and Simon Guerrier made a return visit. Richard had a nice chat with Jonn Elledge about his enthusiasm for Doctor Who.

We hope you enjoy these clips and, if you do, please peruse our back catalogue for the full versions of all of these items and perhaps you'd like to leave us a review on Apple Podcasts or similar platform.

You may have noticed that our 100th episode came out earlier this year. This is a series of clips from the first 5 years of our podcast to capture the spirit of what we do. If you haven't heard us before, this will give you a flavour. And if you have, here's a reminder.

Thanks to all the many contributors and guests over those 5 years. It's been a lot of fun (and a hell of a lot of editing).

    Nov 10 2024

After a chance meeting at the War Machines event at Riverside Studios, Richard speaks with journalist and author Jonn Elledge, a regular on the podcast Paper Cuts.

We have free ranging chat based on the loose theme of Jonn's latest book, A History of The World in 47 Borders, discussing how Jonn became a Doctor Who fan, how Doctor Who deals with the topic of borders and how, like any listener to this podcast, at all times at least 30% of Jonn's brain is dedicated to some aspect of Doctor Who.

Jonn's most recent book, and the one we discuss on the episode is A History of the World in 47 Borders: The Stories Behind the Lines on Our Maps, which you can find here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/History-World-47-Borders-Stories/dp/B0CJVM68BN/.
