  • Episode 28: Helen Betty + Kalvin John Osborne
    Apr 27 2023

To close out our month of April after our month of being absent, Gabbi presents a Native American case. This is the case of Helen Betty Osborne and her younger brother, who would be murdered years later, Kalvin John Osborne. Helen, or Betty Osborne as she was affectionately called by friends, was a Cree Aboriginal woman from Norway House reserve who was kidnapped and murdered while walking down Third Street late one evening in The Pas, Manitoba. Both Osborne children were born and raised in Norway House, Manitoba, with Helen being the eldest of 12 children born to Joe and Justine Osborne. Her ambition was to go to college and become a teacher, but her life was cruelly snuffed out on November 13, 1971 and would go unsolved for over 16 years. 37 years later her brother Kalvin would be murdered as well in his own apartment on March 26, 2008. Kalvin was deemed the fun uncle, supporting himself over the years as a laborer, he enjoyed doing drag with his friends and being who he was always meant to be, regardless of what anyone thought. Tune in this week as we shine a light on two Native American lives that were taken too soon, but are not forgotten.

  • Mini Monday #21: Slowly Back Up
    Apr 24 2023

Forgive us, we're still shaking off the rust. Haha, this week for our Mini Monday we get through 4 listener emails. A classic forest story to kick us off as another prime example why you should not be messing around with the forest. A skinwalker, a coat rack, and a DNA test seem like an unlikely grouping, but they wrap us up in plenty of laughter. Please don't quit emailing in your stories!

  • Episode 27: "Ocean Born" Mary + Ireland's Green Lady
    Apr 21 2023

Mary Wilson Wallace, better known as Ocean-Born Mary, is a folklore figure of New England. Born on a ship in the Atlantic Ocean on July 26, 1720, to Irish-Scots parents, James Wilson and Elizabeth Fulton Wilson, she had an unorthodox beginning, to say the least. While off the coast of Boston, Mary was born aboard a ship and after Pirates attempted to take over the vessel they were on, he came upon the beautiful red-head. Under the condition of her being named Mary, he agreed to let all members of the ship continue on their journey. Thus, she became "Ocean Born" Mary. She would continue to live a fairly normal life, and grew up in Londonderry, NH, where she married (a different) James. A cheesehead ended up buying one of Mary's son's previous homes and creating a fantastical tale on which he could live off of. Whether this tale is fact or fiction is up to you, but it might ring a little familiar to those with Irish roots.

The second part of our episode discusses Ireland's legend of "The Green Lady", which might have been where our dear Wisconsin man might have gotten inspiration for some of his Mary ghost tale. You guys asked for more ghosties! Here we are 👻

  • Episode 26: Teghan Skiba
    Mar 31 2023

*Disclaimer: This episode mentions violence against children of physical nature. Listener discretion is advised.*

Welcome to the month of March's child advocacy case! Sofie tells Gabbi the tragic story of 4 year old Teghan Skiba of Raleigh, NC. Teghan, or "Teggy" - pronounced "teegy" - was left with her mother's boyfriend of 3 months while she went away for military training for 10 days. Her mother's boyfriend, Jonathan Douglas Richardson, took her to the North Carolina hospital at Chapel Hill after she had experienced blunt force trauma to the head from "jumping on furniture"... Doctors however discovered more injuries than many had ever seen on such a tiny human's body - including 66 bite marks along with various bruises, cuts, and even strangulation. It became clear that this was more than Teggy hitting her head, this was a brutal and painful murder. Why did this happen to her? And what happened to her killer? Listen in to find out.

Stay spooky, and don't be sh*tty.
