  • 1099: Revolutionizing Early Career Recruitment: How College Recruiter is Helping Millions Find Their First Job with Steven Rothberg
    Nov 13 2024
Steven Rothberg is the Founder of College Recruiter job search site, which believes that every student and recent graduate deserves a great career...and that it should be easy and inexpensive for employers to hire them. Each year, more than 12 million students, recent graduates, and other early career candidates use College Recruiter to help them find part-time, seasonal, internship, and other early career job opportunities almost anywhere globally. Steven founded the company out of which College Recruiter grew way back in 1991. He had just graduated from law school, passed the bar, and was working as a lawyer when he decided to get out of law to, as he says, enjoy his life. He invested almost all of his savings -- about $200 -- to buy business cards, letterhead, and a fax machine. He then convinced a number of departments at his alma matter, the University of Minnesota, to allow his little business to publish their official campus map for them. He gave the school the maps for free, they distributed them to students, and the company earned its revenues from the sale of advertising around the edges of the maps. That led to also publishing employment magazines called College Recruiter and that led to the first version of the company's website going live in 1996. By 2000, the company had shutdown the profitable maps and magazines to focus on the website. Listen to this informative Sharkpreneur episode with Steven Rothberg about revolutionizing early career recruitment. Here are some of the beneficial topics covered on this week’s show: - How College Recruiter partners with affiliate sites, including college career services, scholarship sites, and other job boards. - Why the average rate of applying to a job listing after viewing it is only 5%. - How College Recruiter automatically distributes job postings to relevant partner sites based on job specifics. - Why low-skill jobs see higher application rates than specialized roles. - How AI has disrupted various industries, including job search and recruitment.
