    Feb 13 2025

Thank you for tuning into the SeaBros Fishing Podcast!

On this episode Captain Damon Sacco of Castafari Sportfishing and Tournaments, returns for his fifth annual podcast with us.

Damon is a pleasure to talk to and always has great stories to share. In this conversation we start off with some bluefin tuna and canyon fishing talk. We discuss fishing for giants around draggers, and how much of a struggle the 2024 weather pattern was for canyon fishing and most of the offshore tournaments in the Northeast.

Damon tells stories about fishing in the Maldives and Figi, targeting dogtooth tuna and giant trevelle. He also discusses what it is like to visit and fish in extremely remote places. Damon tells a story about what it can be like to seek medical care in these remote destinations...

Finally, we spend a bit of time talking about the upcoming 2025 Castafari Offshore Fishing Seminar which is March 1 & 2 in Quincy, MA. This event is always educational and exciting to attend. Damon talks about some of the new presentations on deck for this year's event, including a LIVE podcast session we will be hosting with several of thew show's key note speakers.

We hope you enjoy this conversation with Damon as much as we did!

  • Zack Richardson - "Zack's Custom Rods"
    Feb 1 2025

Thank you for tuning into the SeaBros Fishing Podcast!

On this episode we sit down with long time friend and custom fishing rod builder, Zack Richardson. We first met Zack during our past time in the tackle industry; making squid bars, offshore lures, manufacturing skirts, and building custom rods.

Zack is one of the most determined and professional young business owners in the fishing industry in our opinion. Since 2011, he has owned and operated Zack's Custom Rods based out of Westport, Massachusetts. He and his crew offer the full spectrum of offshore and inshore rods, designed and specialized for anything from giant bluefin tuna to striped bass.

For any young aspiring entrepreneurs listening, Zack was a full time college student studying entrepreneurship and marketing, while minoring in environmental science at Bryant University. Throughout Zack's career at Bryant, he was awarded the GOSS Prize, received recognition from American/RI Innovation, and has been published as one of the most successful students at the university.

In this conversation we discuss building a business from scratch and juggling school work and while running a company. Zack takes us through his entire process of building a rod, or set of rods, from start to finish. He talks about the captains and anglers that he worked with throughout many seasons of testing specific blanks and setups, before offering them to the public.

Zack is an awesome person and is very passionate about what he does. We hope you enjoy this as much as we did!

  • Captain Fred Malcarne - "The Proof is in the Pudding"
    Jan 17 2025

Thank you for tuning into the SeaBros Fishing Podcast!

On this episode we sit down with a true innovator in the fishing tackle industry, Captain Fred Malcarne. Fred grew up in New England, has been a fisherman and a hunter for the majority of his life. He owns and operates a company that many of you are probably familiar with, Winthrop Tackle.

Fred has had a long career as a tool maker and is a talented craftsman. Winthrop Tackle was born when he demanded higher quality components for his own fishing rods. Winthrop is an American-made manufacturer of the finest quality, custom sport-fishing products that are used by some of the best sportfishing boats all over the world.

The continuous evolution of Winthrop's product lines starts with the input from experienced rod builders and world-class fishermen. Incorporating the latest angling techniques with solutions to problems that fishermen encounter on the water, Fred and and the crew at Winthrop create innovative products with an elegant design. Every prototype they create goes through refining and improvements before it is approved for production. Winthrop then verifies top-performance thorough rigorous field testing by partner captains and crews before a product is ready for market.

Fred is a very smart guy and this conversation was amazing. We discuss what it takes to design, prototype, test, and implement a new product from a tool maker's perspective. Fred's story is an awesome one and we hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

  • 2024 Charter Fishing Season Recap (special guest O.G.)
    Dec 7 2024

Thank you for tuning in to the SeaBros Fishing Podcast! On this episode we sit down again with our deckhand Ben Makaroff and our father, Old Greg, to review our 2024 charter fishing season on the Mass Bay Guides boats.

The Mass Bay Guides 2024 season was action packed. We ran over 250 charters on our boats, experienced many amazing days of fishing, laughed a lot, and had incredible guests aboard.

The main focus of this conversation was to review our logbook from this past season and discuss what we experienced in our local waters around Massachusetts. We talk about everything from light tackle shad fishing in the spring months, striped bass fishing through early summer, and share what we experienced during our tuna season. Old Greg ensures there is plenty of filterless humor sprinkled throughout our discussion...

We had a lot of fun on this one and we are officially in winter mode. We will be pushing out bi-weekly content this off-season as we start season 6 of the podcast, so stay tuned.

Thank you to all of our listeners for the continued support. If you have any questions, topic ideas, or recommended guests for future conversations, please reach out to us on our social media platforms (Instagram, Patreon, and Facebook). Don't forget, the video version of this podcast is also available on our YouTube Channel.

  • Captain Matt Perachio - "Tighten Up"
    Nov 12 2024

Thank you for tuning into the SeaBros Fishing Podcast!

On this episode we had the pleasure of having a conversation with local captain Matt Perachio of Tighten Up Charters, Cape Cod. We have known Matt for several years, and fish a lot of the same grounds throughout Massachusetts and Cape Cod Bay.

Matt's offshore fishing career began during his childhood summers on Cape Cod with his family. Over the years his affinity for the ocean left him wanting more and eventually he transitioned from recreational and commercial striped bass fishing, to the adrenaline packed pursuit of light tackle bluefin tuna and taking out clients for hire.

Today, Matt is a full time charter fisherman and guide. He runs over 150 trips a season, with most of his trips being light tackle bluefin tuna trips; specifically targeting bluefin using casting and jigging tactics. Matt owns and operates a 27' Onslow Bay, and has several other charter captains and run and gun boats under his wing.

Matt is a wealth of knowledge and is extremely passionate about all types of fishing. In this conversation, Matt takes us through his charter fishing program. We talk about different tactics that we use for chasing striped bass and tuna throughout New England. Matt goes into detail on how he approaches light tackle tuna fishing. He talks about everything from rigging, finding fish, to approaching schools of busting tuna. Recently Matt and his crew have started an online resource for everything light tackle tuna fishing called Bluefin Plus. If you are a light tackle junky, make sure you check it out.

This conversation with Matt was awesome and we hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

    Jul 19 2024

Thank you for tuning into the SeaBros Fishing Podcast!

On this episode we had the privilege of sitting down for a great conversation with Captain Bob DeCosta of Albacore Charters, Nantucket. We have known Bob through our network of fellow captains for quite some time, but have never had the opportunity to sit down and talk off of the water until this podcast.

Bob is a second generation charter boat captain with over 50 years of experience fishing the waters around Nantucket and Cape Cod. Bob runs Albacore charters along side his son Ray, who when not running charters with his dad, is a fire fighter on Nantucket.

Bob is a wealth of knowledge and is a master at putting his clients on fish. He is an incredibly well rounded fisherman, and is one of the most consistent producers in the northeast. In this conversation, Bob shares the story of how he started fishing. He talks about growing up on Nantucket, how fisheries have changed, and the tactics that he uses in his local waters. As always, a bunch of fish stories, tuna theories, and laughs are shared in this one.

  • Captain Jesse Martello and Chris Gergley - "Think Big"
    Jun 5 2024

Thank you for tuning into the SeaBros Fishing Podcast!

On this episode of the podcast it was our pleasure to host long time friend and fellow fisherman, Captain Jesse Martello. Joining him, another returning guest and owner of L.T Marine Products, Captain Chris Gergley.

We have known Jesse since we started our charter fishing business over 20 years ago. He is an incredible person, amazing fishermen, and is one of the most mechanically gifted humans on the planet. If it is broken, Jesse can fix it. He has decades of experience in the automotive industry, and has translated those skills to his passion of boats and fishing. Jesse runs a charter business of his own "Think Big Sportfishing" out of Mystic, CT.

Jesse and Chris actually met through us, and became close friends quickly; being that they are from the same area. Since then, Jesse collaborates with Chris on designing and testing products for L.T, and Chris works with Jesse on the charter boat.

In this conversation we discuss the importance of preparation, time on the water, and the amount of dedication it takes to become a consistent charter fisherman. We talk about similar methods we share when tuna fishing on Stellwagen Bank, and we also talk canyon fishing tactics. We also spend a bit of time discussing manufacturing products for one of the most abusive environments and against some of the world's hardest fish to catch.

We hope you enjoy this as much as we did!
