A little advice

There are sooooo many podcasts now that read every book in a series or watch every episode of a show. If you do this, maybe include what you like about it. Don’t just rip it to shreds. Or if you hate it, why waste so much time making a podcast about it? Include some enthusiasm. You can be critical of a plot point and still love a book. It seems the only people who might take the time to listen are fans who might not be into a hate read. Also, if you’re going to include the now common “list of why this book is problematic”, don’t make it all about yourself. “I’m so shocked, I’m offended. I certainly wouldn’t use this term.” Especially don’t add on “I know nothing about the time that this was written.” Take your review to the next level by actually putting the book in context. Know something about the time and culture it came out of. Know something about the author’s point of view. Was that term offensive even when it was written? How would the people it was applied to have felt about it at that time? Perhaps it was perfectly acceptable when written. As is, it comes across as very performative and centering completely on the hosts. Very tiresome.
