• 43. Gladiator (2000) - Where is Jesus in the Colosseum? Plus, Public Education with Alyssa Albee
    Nov 19 2024

Hello and welcome to Pop Culture Redemption, a show that is dedicated to helping the church have a better vision of God at work in pop culture. We are getting after it today. If you didn’t know, Gladiator 2 is coming to theaters later this week on November 22.In preparation for that movie, we decided to go back to the year 2000 to Rejoice, Reject and Redeem the first Gladiator movie starring Russel Crow. And oh did we have a lot to talk about! Then, I have a short conversation with friend of the show Alyssa Albee on seeing Jesus in the public education system. Alyssa is a middle school teacher, and has a lot of helpful experience and insight as we look at a formative part of our culture, the education system. Alright, it’s time to step into the Colosseum. Strength and honor!

  • 39. Finding Nemo - Just Keep Swimming, Unexpected Companions, & The Gospel
    Oct 8 2024

Welcome back to Pop Culture Redemption, a show dedicated to helping the Church have a better vision of God working in popular culture. In today’s episode, the gang goes back in time to unpack Disney’s “Finding Nemo.” Oh man, is there a lot to chew on in this one! Is “just keep swimming” a call to persevere or an attitude that leads to burnout? How does Marlin’s treatment of Dory convict us of how we treat friendships and relationships? Is there another story somewhere (maybe in the Bible?) about a Father going to great lengths to save his rebellious children? Plus, want to learn how to properly sign “turtle” in ASL? Tune in for all this and more!
