  • Meet Petersfield's newest councillor, Jacob Copeland
    Sep 4 2024

Jacob was elected to serve the people of Bell Hill in a by-election on 28 August.

He won a convincing 55% of the vote, but says he had no idea he was ahead until the very end.

Shine Radio's Stephen Martin walked with Jacob through part of his ward, from Petersfield railway station to the foot of Bell Hill.

Jacob is a local charity trustee who volunteers with organisations that champion poverty alleviation in the local community.

It means that Bell Hill is represented entirely on the Town Council by candidates who are free of political party affiliations.

A total of 413 people cast a vote in the ward.

Jacob said before the election that his experience in risk and governance can help manage the proposed multi-million pound investment in Petersfield’s Festival Hall.

  • Darcey, the Canine Partner support dog
    Sep 1 2024

Darcey, the golden Labrador retriever has been partnered with illustrator and teaching assistant, Wren Rawlings for over six years.

Wren explains to presenter Kate Fairweather what Darcey does for him and how the partnership has seen him through a roller coaster seven years. Having had pretty normal health through his childhood and teenage years, Wren was struck with life-altering illness when he was a university student, which left him disabled.

The partnership is one of Canine Partners' many successes: Wren starts a teaching job in September and is getting married in a month after that - with Darcey as ring bearer, at the heart of the ceremony in October.

It’s a life affirming tale of triumph over adversity. Darcey was trained specifically for Wren by Canine Partners, the support dog charity.
