• 'Wisdom's Call' - Prof. K.A. Ellis Interview
    Nov 23 2023

    Special Thanksgiving Bonus Episode:

I love this book. After six months of study and conversations about Wisdom and Folly in Proverbs, it's so rich!

Professor Ellis and her husband Dr. Carl Ellis Jr., are dear friends and co-laborers together with my full-time ministry, Two Cities Project, and the Edmiston Center for the Study of the Bible and Ethnicity at Reformed Seminary Atlanta, directed by Professor Ellis.

We sat down to talk about podcasting (a whole other story) and neither of us knew that the other was working on a Proverbs project. So we turned on the mic and spent some time talking about her book and Out of the Fog: Proverbs.

Wisdom's Call has 100 meditations on Wisdom and the Ancient Story. I've never found a devotional book so deep, so biblical and so compelling.

HIGHLY recommend! Elizabeth and I are planning to give many family members this gift for Christmas!

Hope you enjoy this bonus episode!

    Why a podcast on Proverbs?

[from Jim]: I've been formed into a better person because I repeatedly read and learned from Proverbs over the years. But today it feels to me like Proverb's practical and profound wisdom about all of life have gotten lost in fog of the battle in our minds and culture. My friends and I want to give a helping hand to others who would benefit from wisdom and direction.

When some friends who study the Bible regularly challenged me to capture collected insights and learnings and share them in conversations around the table, Out of the Fog: Proverbs was born.

Three main sources for the discussion:

    1. I'm deeply indebted to my parents, Jim and Barbara, who encouraged me to simply start reading a chapter of Proverbs a day when I was young. This discipline of regularly re-reading and applying Proverbs taught me a lot that provided stability as a young person.

    2. Dr. Bruce Waltke impacted me greatly through a graduate school class. I find his book Proverbs: A Shorter Commentary super helpful in understanding the beautiful and deep historical and poetical aspects of Proverbs. He's my main background source.

    3. Discussions with friends from church who have learned the huge value of inductive Bible study methodology. We're recording our live interactions and their insights, observations and applications push me and encourage me.

Thank you Eliza, Jewlz, Alex, Nicole, Christian, Deanna, Daniel, Levi and José who bring your curiosity, your story and your insights to the table! Know you are loved!
