  • Occasional Randomness #28 - Stark Trek (Farscape S4E07)
    Sep 4 2024

This time around, we review Farscape season 4, episode 7 - John Quixote. Not that you would think of Don Quixote from practically anything in this episode... Anyway... Chiana pulls Crichton into a VR game that quickly goes off the rails. Apparently Stark has it out for Crichton because of Zhaan's death last season and has made up a VR game to trap Crichton and make him suffer. But things don't work out the way Stark probably wanted. There's Easter eggs and cameos galore in this one, especially the surprise guest star at the end. A live action version of the animated Revenging Angel episode from last season. Kind of.

  • Occasional Randomness #27 - Feed Me Seymour! (Farscape S4E06)
    Aug 14 2024

Only the one episode of Farscape this time around as we're waiting for the next Marvel or Star Wars shows to premiere. This time, Farscape season 4, episode 6 - Natural Election. Aeryn and Crichton are about to have "the talk" about Aeryn's baby but just as they start Moya is rocked by a collision and explosions. Seems she's covered in some kind of space plant that begins digesting her. The crew rush to get rid of the plant before Moya is destroyed, with their new bestest buddy Scorpius even lending a hand. All this and also the crew picks a captain, with some surprising votes being cast.

  • Occasional Randomness #26 - Promises Made / Promises Broken (Farscape S4E05 - The Acolyte S1E5-8)
    Jul 25 2024

We continue our trip through the final season of Farscape with season 4, episode 5 - Promises. The crew finally are reunited (and it feels so good) with Moya, Pilot and Aeryn. And a not-so-welcome new addition to our crew. But Aeryn's not feeling all that well and the person who made her that way drops by for some revenge.

Then we finish our review and discussion of the last half of season 1 of Star Wars: The Acolyte with episodes 5 - 8. We liked the series overall, giving it 7 out of 8 stars (one episode really didn't go over well with us). We absolutely loved the intricate and wild lightsaber battles in these episodes. And loved speculating about the nature of Jedi vs. Sith, the Rule of Two and our creepy lurker buddy Darth Plagueis.

  • Occasional Randomness #25 - Will the Real Tarkans Please Stand Up? (Farscape S4E04- The Acolyte S1E1-4)
    Jul 3 2024

Episode #25! Not that we planned anything for this milestone, but we do have a larger than normal sized episode this time around. First up, Farscape season 4, episode 4 - Lava's a Many Splendored Thing. Still no sign of Aeryn (maybe next time). The crew lands on a barren planet covered in, you guessed it, lava, in search of food. Unfortunately things go about as well as you'd expect and they get trapped by a group of thieves whom Noranti mistakes as friendly freedom fighters. Cue the hijinks!

And then after Farscape, we recap and discuss the first four episodes of the latest Star Wars live action show on Disney+, The Acolyte. Despite the Internet kerfuffle and review bombing of the early episodes, we both liked it. We have some ideas on what might have been a more interesting premise for the main antagonist(s), but overall, we like the mystery they've set up so far. And one of us has some wild theories who the dark master behind things could be.

  • Occasional Randomness #24 - Is That How Magnetics Really Works? (Farscape S4E03 - Tales of the Empire)
    Jun 12 2024

We wrap up the first multipart story of season 4 of Farscape - episode 3, What Was Lost (Part 2): Resurrection. We were not entirely impressed with part one, so see if we think they bring it home in part two and come to a satisfying conclusion. We do get to continue learning more about our new villain, Commandant Grayza. And they do give us some cliffhangers, or unresolved plot points at least, to chew on and hope they come back to them in the future.

And then after Farscape, we briefly discuss the latest Star Wars shorts on Disney+, Tales of the Empire. We liked how they filled in the gaps with Morgan Elsbeth's life that led her to where we first saw her in The Mandalorian, and later in Ahsoka. And we also liked the 2nd part with what happened to Barriss Offee, former Jedi. Even though one of us forgot she even existed.

  • Occasional Randomness - Farscape Flashback #19 - Boogie or Die! (Farscape S2E15-16)
    May 30 2024

Welcome to the next episode of Farscape Flashbacks! Our reposting of our Farscape season one and two podcasts that we did on another podcasting network so you can more easily listen to them here.

Here's our "original" show notes for this episode. Enjoy!

This time we review two really amazing episodes. Granted, in the grand scheme of things, they didn’t really happen but they’re still amazing.

First up, Won’t Get Fooled Again, where Crichton is back on Earth again. Or is he? This time it’s completely different… and just keeps getting crazier and crazier. And we also prove conclusively that the 2000’s line-up of the Guardians of the Galaxy is a complete rip-off (homage?) of Farscape.

We wrap up with The Locket where the crew gets all timey-wimey inside a misty space bubble. Aeryn and Crichton are stranded on nearby planet that seems to only appear every 55 years while Moya and the rest of the crew never age. How can they all get reunited and back to their normal ages before it’s too late? And our old buddy Stark is back with some dire news for D’Argo.

  • Occasional Randomness #23 - Odd Beginnings, Thrilling Endings (Farscape S4E02 - Bad Batch S3E12-15)
    May 15 2024

We have our first multipart story of season 4 of Farscape. We review and discuss season 4, episode 2 - What Was Lost (Part 1): Sacrifice. Is it as good as the prior seasons' multiparters? Eric and Jason aren't sure. They both thought it was a confusing episode with parts both seen and unseen. Just what is going on with the Interions and this mysterious planet they're on? And what's up with the Old Woman and why's she acting all out of it? It does set things up though for the next episode where they hopefully will bring it home. But we at least get to learn more about our new Big Bad for the season, Commandant Grayza.

And then after Farscape, it's on to the final third set of episodes of season 3 of Star Wars: The Bad Batch with episodes 12 - 15. It all comes to a satisfying conclusion. The Batch abduct ex-Admiral Rampart who helps them find where Omega is being held. And it's off to save her and the other prisoners at Mount Tantiss and stop Hemlock's research into Project Necromancer. And then we have not one, but two endings that would make excellent follow on series if they choose to do so.

  • Occasional Randomness - Farscape Flashback #18 - How to Get a Head in Politics (Farscape S2E13-14)
    May 1 2024

Welcome to the next episode of Farscape Flashbacks! Our reposting of our Farscape season one and two podcasts that we did on another podcasting network so you can more easily listen to them here.

Here's our "original" show notes for this episode. Enjoy!

We conclude the amazing three part Look at the Princess trilogy and then talk about a not-so-amazing story.

First up, the exciting conclusion of the trilogy, Look at the Princess, Part 3: The Maltese Crichton. They manage to wrap up all the plotlines from the last two episodes in a very satisfying way. And start up a new plotline that will run for many more episodes. Everyone gets a happy ending. Well… almost.

Finally, Beware of Dog gets a mixed review from both of us. We felt the main plot was a rehash of a couple of different season one episodes. However, we really loved the subplot about Crichton’s continuing interaction with visions of Scorpius that are becoming more and more frequent and intense.
