  • Nevada Smith- Marquette Basketball, G-League Insights, and Offensive Innovator

    Marquette men's basketball assistant coach, Nevada Smith, joins this week's episode of @Notevend2 . Nevada played college basketball at Bethany College where he led the school to back-to-back conference championships, while leading Division 3 in three pointers made during his senior year.

    Nevada coached at various Division 3 schools, including: St. Lawrence, Allegheny College, SUNY Canton, Ithaca College and Keystone College. Coach Smith's career shifted to the professional level when he got connected with Daryl Morey and the Houston Rocket's staff. Nevada was the head coach for the Houston Rockets D-League affiliate, Grand Valley Vipers, before becoming the head coach for the Miami Heat D-League affiliate, Sioux Falls Skyforce. Oklahoma City Thunder's head coach, Mark Diagneualt became a close friend of Coach Smith as the two coached against each other in the D-League; Diagneualt eventually connected Nevada with Coach Shaka Smart at the University of Texas.

    Coach Smith and Smart moved on to coach together at Marquette. The 2024-25 season marks the 4th season Nevada has coached for Marquette. Marquette has made the NCAA Tournament every year since Coach Smith has been a part of the staff.

  • Zac Boyes- The Cortaca Rivalry

    The #2 ranked Cortland Red Dragons just won the Empire 8 for the fourth straight year- qualifying for the NCAA tournament. Their starting QB, the 2023 Dlll National Championship MVP, Zac Boyes joins this week's episode of @Notevend2 . Boyes is currently having one of his best seasons; the veteran quarterback has thrown 24 TD's with just one interception and ranking in the top 5 nationally in completion percentage (72%).

    The biggest game of the year for Cortland football is Saturday, November 16. Cortland vs Ithaca, known as Cortaca, has been a tradition since the 1930's. This years game is at Cortland and is expected to be one of the most intense atmospheres in Cortaca history. Cortland (9-0) faces off against the Ithaca Bombers (6-3) in a game that "determines legacies". The biggest little game in the nation kicks off at 1:00. Hear from Cortland's star quarterback about his mindset going into the Cortaca matchup, what this week around Cortland has been like, and his expectations for the game.

  • Matt Becht- 3 Schools, 3 Surgeries, Dominance at SNHU, and the Journey back to D1 Basketball

    @Notevend2 talks with 2023-24 1st Team All-NE10 player, Matt Becht on this week's episode. Matt Becht attended high school in Virginia where he played for Bishop O'Connell. After a successful high career, Becht committed to Mount St. Mary's. Early in his freshman year, Matt suffered a knee injury that required surgery. That would only be the start of the adversity Matt faced during his college career; in just two years playing for the Mountaineers, Becht went through three surgeries.

    Matt entered the transfer portal after his second year, and would commit to Division 2, NE10 member, Southern New Hampshire University. The next three years playing for the Penman would be filled with success; in three years Becht averaged over 14 ppg in every year, and shot 45% from three in his final two years with SNHU. In 2023-24 SNHU won a NE10 championship and made a run all the way to the D2 NCAA Elite 8.

    With one year of eligibility left, Matt entered the transfer portal where he would hear from plenty of Power 5 and high major schools. Becht committed to Merrimack for the 2024-25 season. Merrimack competes in the MAAC conference and kicks off their season Saturday (11/9) against Vermont.

  • Curt Fitzpatrack- The Mind Behind Cortland's 2023 National Championship and Explosive Offense

    The 2023 AFCA Division 3 Coach of the Year, Curt Fitzpatrick joins this week's episode as we talk in-depth about his successful football career. Coach Fitzpatrick currently leads the #2 ranked team in the country- the Cortland Red Dragons. Fitzpatrick made history in 2023 becoming the first coach to lead SUNY Cortland to a national title.

    Curt talks about his playing career, as one of the best players to play at St. John Fisher University, and the impact this had on his coaching career. After his playing career, Fitzpatrick was the assistant at both, Utica University and St. John Fisher. 2013 would be the first head coaching job for Fitzpatrick where he spent the next seven seasons leading the Morrisville Mustangs. Under Fitzpatrick, Morrisville would have 4 winning seasons including one NJAC championship.

    Since taking the Cortland job in 2020, Fitzpatrick has developed Cortland into an elite program- only losing four games in the last five seasons. Cortland is picking up right where they left off last year, as they're currently ranked #3 in scoring offense, averaging over 50 points per game.

    Tobin Anderson, current Iona men's basketball head coach joins this week's episode of ​⁠to talk about his college basketball career.   • Jace Rindahl - From Warhawk Star to Coach: His Football Journey

    .Current head coach of University of Wisconsin-Whitewater's football team, Jace Rindahl joins this week's episode of "Not Even D2". Prior to leading the Warhawks, Jace played four years (2005-08) for UW-Whitewater where he played in four straight national championships. His junior year (2007), him and his team won the first ever national championship in UW-Whitewater history. Jace would follow that with becoming a D3 football Defensive Player of the Year in his senior year. Post playing career, Rindahl would become the linebackers coach during a dominant UW-Whitewater run. Joining Coach Leipold's (current Kansas football head coach) staff the group would win three straight national championships- winning 46 straight games. Coach Rindahl would work his way to defensive coordinator before being named head coach in 2023. The Warhawks were ranked #3 in the d3football.com top 25 rankings, and currently rank #10.
