The Beatitudes are Jesus vision for a disciple living in the Kingdom of God under the rule of God. Having looked at the first four last week, we will finish with the final five this week. The first four pointed us to God; these last five teach us how Jesus wants us to love the world around us and the surprising ways the world will respond to that love.

There are two main reactions to the birth of Jesus In Matthew 2. On one hand, the wise men followed the star, tracked down Jesus, fell down to worship Him, and showered Him with gifts. They went home a different way and their lives were spared. On the other hand, Herod saw the star, sent others to find Jesus, sought to kill Him, and eventually died. Join us this Sunday as we reflect on how representative those ways of responding to Jesus still are today.

Of all the people in redemptive history, Joseph is often underrated for his role in the story of God. Very little is known about him but this Sunday we will see why Matthew chose to tell the virgin birth narrative from Joseph's perspective.
