Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview series with Percussionist, Educator & Foundation Executive Director of the CNY Jazz Central Orchestra Larry Luttinger .. We caught up with him to talk about the new 2024 CD If a White Horse from Jerusalem featuring NEA Jazz Master Dave Liebman, the history of the orchestra and his life in music. He has been part of the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra for over 20 years and has been an avid arts administrator, music educator and musician. As the founder and Executive Director of CNY Jazz Central, he oversees this not-for-profit performing organization that presents jazz and related improvisatory arts in concert, cabaret, scholastic and festival settings across Upstate New York. Flushing Town Hall recently launched an interactive Queens Jazz Trail Map highlighting the homes of the jazz legends in the borough of Queens. To emphasize the boroughs continued importance for jazz music, Flushing Town Hall frequently hosts acclaimed jazz musicians and NEA Jazz Masters. On November 22nd, it will present the wonderful Eric Alexander Quartet. Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview series with Montreal & New York-based Cellist Sahara von Hattenberger .. We caught up with her about her new 2024 CD 1Q84 and her life in music. Fans of Japanese literature may recognize the title of the new album as having been borrowed from acclaimed author Haruki Murakami’s most famous fantasy novel, 1Q84. The story begins in 1984 and follows a young woman as she travels to a parallel universe - one almost identical to our own, except for a few eerie differences. Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview series with Jazz Percussionist of Sandbox Percussion Victor Caccese .. We talked about the GRAMMY®-nominated ensemble Sandbox Percussion and their union with the Tyshawn Sorey Trio collaborating on a special Max Roach tribute, performed live. Together, the two groups will explore the extraordinary legacy of jazz pioneer Max Roach, who was born 100 years ago. Each group will perform its own set first, highlighting Roach’s impact across musical worlds. Then follows the world premiere of a through-composed multi-movement new piece by the Pulitzer Prize–winning composer Sorey in honor of Roach’s groundbreaking ensemble M’Boom, with the groups joining forces as a septet.
