Navigating Grid Challenges for Clean Energy 2030 with Matt Vickers

  • Summary

  • Grids are the backbone of our energy systems. They are the essential arteries which enable reliable power and gas to be delivered from where it is generated to where it is used, when it is needed. But our network infrastructure has typically not had sufficient focus and investment as policy makers have encouraged generators and consumers to make the transition to a cleaner energy system. Decentralised generation and increasing power demand have put enormous strain on energy networks. NESO, the UK system operator, is managing a queue to connect new projects to the grid that will undermine government net zero targets if it is not solved. Matthew Vickers, NESO’s Director of Connections Reform, joins us to discuss how NESO is approaching this challenge and what it means for the UK Government’s Clean Energy 2030 aspirations.
