Native Land Pod

By: iHeartPodcasts
  • Summary

  • In the spirit of the last stanza of the Black National Anthem, we rise from the past, rooted deeply in the soil of ancestral struggles, to build a home, to claim our space. On Native Land Pod, Angela Rye, Tiffany Cross, and Andrew Gillum guide us through the political landscape, wielding insights and unapologetic analysis, unraveling the threads that connect Black Americans and marginalized communities to a place they courageously call home.

In each episode, Angela, Tiffany and Andrew embark on a journey of reflection, taking stock of the news of the week and the country's road to the polls.

Join us each week as we navigate the dance between past and present, weaving a narrative of hope, empowerment, and the unyielding strength that defines the journey to reclaim 'Native Land.' This isn't just news analysis; it's a movement, a conversation, and a testament to the power of those who dare to rebuild and redefine the meaning of home.

  • Boycott or Nah?
    Jan 30 2025

This week hosts Tiffany Cross, Angela Rye, and Andrew Gillum are joined by comedian Leslie Jones to answer a question that we’ve been hearing a lot lately: “What do we do?”

What do we do in response to a Trump administration that’s upending our government? What do we do to re-focus on our local communities and ourselves? And what do we do about all these companies ending DEI? We hear y’all–what do we do??

Call 202-224-3121 to reach your local senator and make your voice heard.

The debate: to boycott or not to boycott? Large companies like Target, Facebook/Meta and Tesla have gone mask-off and ended their DEI initiatives in response to a “shifting cultural and legal landscape.” Does this mean inclusivity in hiring practices is over?

And comedian and actress Leslie Jones talks about being unapologetically Black in Hollywood. How do Black entertainers stand up for themselves in the entertainment industry AND should they be standing up for all of us?

And of course we’ll hear from you! If you’d like to submit a question, check out our tutorial video: www.instagram.com/reel/C5j_oBXLIg0/

  • Federal Funding Paused? | SoloPod
    Jan 28 2025

How the federal funding freeze impacts YOU.

In a legally questionable move, President Trump has issued a federal funding freeze on all public loans, grants, and federal assistance programs. $3 trillion dollars were spent on federal assistance programs in 2024, money that helps fund universities, non-profits, small businesses, and local government grants. These programs touch countless American lives.

On her first SoloPod, Angela Rye breaks down the far-reaching consequences of the funding freeze, identifying some of the more crucial programs at risk, and the legal challenges to the order itself.

  • We Are Not (that) Afraid
    Jan 27 2025

With Trump coming into the office, fear is in the air. Mass deportations loom, racists and law enforcement are empowered, and all of Trump’s “political enemies” are at risk. Hosts Tiffany Cross, Angela Rye, and Andrew Gillum talk about what to do with our fear.

Excellent commentary and format

I saw this podcast promoted on Joy Reid’s MSNBC show, The Reid Out. I immediately looked for it as soon as it dropped and I’m so glad that I did. I’m a huge fan of all 3 hosts and missed seeing them on news outlets. On each weekly podcast, they share powerful personal stories and offer timely and insightful commentary on key issues that are glossed over in mainstream news. I’ve felt informed, inspired, and energized after each episode. I highly recommend this podcast, it is definitely is worth a listen.
