We discuss our #FREESALMA campaign, protest and upcoming human rights and sportswashing forum in Newcastle.
Saudi Human Rights Activist Lina al-Hathloul and Nick McGeehan of FairSquare speak about the importance of this campaign.
We are organising the following events:
NEWCASTLE HUMAN RIGHTS / SPORTSWASHING FORUM - Friday 26th April
Speakers including NUFC fans, local human rights campaigners and a Saudi human rights activist.
Function Room, Upstairs, Bridge Hotel, Castle Square, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE1 1RQ
7pm to 9pm
MATCH DAY PROTEST - NEWCASTLE UNITED vs SHEFFIELD UNITED - Saturday 27th April
This is an opportunity for fans of both clubs to show that, although we continue to support our teams, we do not support the Saudi regime and their repressive laws and they cannot use our club to divert attention away from their many and ongoing human rights abuses.
On April 27th we want to highlight the situation facing Saudi women, specifically the case of Saudi prisoner Salma al-Shehab.
Salma, a mother of two is currently serving 27 years in prison solely for posting tweets in support of Saudi prisoners of conscience.
Let us know if you would like to attend or get involved in the campaign against sportswashing.
