Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is a coming-of-age science fiction series about four kids who get lost in the Star Wars galaxy and must find their way home:

• Setting: The show takes place in the New Republic era, after the events of Return of the Jedi (1983). It's set in the same time frame as The Mandalorian and its spin-offs.

• Plot: The kids make a mysterious discovery on their home planet, then accidentally launch a starship into hyperspace and get lost. They encounter strange creatures, pirates, and other dangerous places.

• Characters: The kids are played by Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Robert Timothy Smith, Kyriana Kratter, and Ryan Kiera Armstrong. Other characters include:

  • Jod Na Nawood: A mysterious Jedi played by Jude Law

  • SM 33: A cranky droid voiced by Nick Frost who helps the kids

• Creators: Jon Watts and Christopher Ford created the show.

• Production: Filming wrapped in January 2023. The show used a combination of new and traditional special effects techniques, including previsualization, motion capture, stop motion, and matte paintings.

• Plot: A massive earthquake strikes Los Angeles, and the city's emergency management director, Mike Roark (Tommy Lee Jones), calls on geologist Dr. Amy Barnes (Anne Heche) to investigate. They discover that the earthquake was a sign of a volcano forming beneath the La Brea Tar Pits. As a second earthquake unleashes the lava, Roark and Barnes must work together to divert the flow.
• Inspiration: The film was inspired by the 1943 formation of the Parícutin volcano in Mexico.
• Cast: Also stars Don Cheadle and Keith David.

The 2024 film ‘Salem's Lot’ is an adaptation of Stephen King's novel about a writer who returns to his hometown to find it under attack by vampires:

• Plot

  Ben Mears, a writer who spent part of his childhood in Jerusalem's Lot, Maine, returns to his hometown after 25 years to write a book about the Marsten House. He discovers that an ancient evil has come to town and is turning the residents into vampires. Ben vows to stop the plague of undead and save the town.

• Characters

  The main vampire is Kurt Barlow, a bald-headed coffin-dweller played by Alexander Ward. Ben's assistant, Richard Straker, played by Pilou Asbæk, acquires the Marsten House, a Victorian-style murder mansion.

• Tone

  Some say the film is filled with jump scares and deaths, with characters being bitten, shot, and hit by a car. Others say the film doesn't get under your skin enough and doesn't have time to develop the characters.

• Release

  The film was announced in 2019, shot in 2021, and with additional photography in 2022.
