  • Let the Right One In (2008)
    Aug 4 2023

It’s time we got around to our next installment in our ongoing MOVIE ROULETTE REVIEW series. Angela picks a movie category from a hat. Each category has a list of movies and we randomly select a number from those categories and thus fall upon what we will be reviewing next. Last time Angela selected “Exsanguinators” and fell upon one of her favorite movies of all time and it set a high bar for vampirism in modern film. Of course, we’re discussing Tomas Alfredson’s swedish coming of age romance horror “Let the Right One In” from John Lindqvist’s novel of the same name (translated I mean). We saw this in the theaters when it premiered in the US and gladly revisit it and cnote some important details we overlooked on first viewing. The story of Oskar and Eli runs deep and this story resonated so much that there is a US remake and a television show that has come out since. How are they gonna deal with those kids aging so quickly if that show goes more than two seasons? We don’t plan to watch it, honestly. What Tomas Alfredson gave us feels like the perfect amount. You won’t believe the next category Angela draws from a hat.

  • Oppenheimer (2023)
    Aug 2 2023

We get back to the movies to discuss Christopher Nolan’s epic “Oppenheimer” starring Cillian Murphy as the man who became death, destroyer of worlds. We call him “Oppy” because it’s cute. There could be no tomorrow so you might as well be cute today. Did they successfully build an atomic bomb? Don’t worry. We won’t spoil that for you. This movie is loaded with stars. Including Benny Safdie who gets to rock a Hungarian accent. Also, where the best pussy at? Union halls, of course.

  • Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
    Jul 31 2023

We end July, and it’s co-theme of “Catching Up”, by finally getting to the 2023 Academy Award Winner for best picture, “Everything Everywhere All at Once” by Them Daniels. It stars the legendary Michelle Yeoh, the lovable Ke Huy Quan and Jamie Lee Curtis as an IRS Karen. It’s a hopeful, reality bending ride that really struck a chord with those that saw it last year. Is the hype real or has this story been cooked too long like an everything bagel in a toaster oven? What exactly is in the Raccacoonie dish? Let’s be real, we’ve been deep in Rick and Morty territory for years so people have been conditioned to absorb such lofty tales. Are we beating a dead horse in terms of ideas and tone? These show notes are getting scatterbrained like this movie. It’s a nicely cast and good looking film for sure. Raccacoonie.

  • She Hate Me (2004)
    Jul 28 2023

It’s the last of the latter of our split themed month dedicated to “Catching Up” and “Strange Love”. It’s got some “Strange Love” in it alright. In fact, this is definitely the strangest movie we’ve discussed yet and we’ve already broken the seal into Cronenberg and Lynch. It’s weird as hell in a way that only Spike Lee can make it weird in one of his most deep cut films. We’re talking “She Hate Me” starring a young Anthony Mackie, Kerry Washington, Q-Tip and many more. John has so much cum and his ex girlfriend is pimping him out to lesbians who take the dick directly. There’s also some corporate corruption and satirical flashbacks of Watergate because why not? This movie is quite the journey, but rest assured, it does give us one very special thing. Listen on to find out what. If y’all have seen this then let us know your thoughts on it in the comments.

  • The Fablemans (2022)
    Jul 26 2023

This month we’re catching up on some buzzworthy movies from 2022, and we pretty much hit on all the ones we wanted with the exception of a few and this week we get to Steven Spielberg’s semi-autobiographical tale with “The Fablemans”. Bob called this “Meet the Fablemans” for 8 months before he realized it was just called “The Fablemans” and by-golly we got a bonafide Spielberg charmer and, admittedly, we haven’t said that about him in a while. Starring Paul Dano, Michelle Williams, Seth Rogen, Judd Hirsch (we’re bonafide Hirsch-Heads) and it doesn’t star Richard Kind, unfortunately. It’s a lovely flick and we all learn about Steven’s train crash fetish that he developed at an early age.

  • Barbie (2023)
    Jul 24 2023

    ((SPOILER LEVEL: MILD))

Barbiemania has swept the world and we’re not above hopping in that pink convertible, then the boat, then the tandem bike, then the rocket, then we camp for a night until we finally roller blade onto this bandwagon. No movie will probably make as much money this summer. SAG goes on strike right after we’ve been saturated with Barbie anticipation. Yeah, we’re talking Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” starring Margot Robbie as the “stereotypical version’ of the iconic doll and Ryan Gosling stealing the show as Ken. Hear our take on the hit of the Summer. Oppenheimer next week. I hooked up with Allen in college.

  • Wild at Heart (1990)
    Jul 21 2023

We’re hitting up some “Strange Love” themed movies this month and we got the second of our double dose of Nicolas Cage this week and it’s also kind of an Elvis week because Sailor (Uncle Nic) just got out of jail and he and his girl Lula (Laura Dean) are in for a wild ride unless Lula’s mother has her way. Yep, we’re talking about David Lynch’s adaptation of the Barry Gifford Neo noir novel “Wild at Heart”. It’s called that, you see, because the whole world is wild at heart and weird on top. A fine example being Bobby Peru’s mouth (Willem Dafoe). It’s a violent road movie fever dream with some Wizard of Oz mixed in. A divisive flick when it came out but Harry Dean Stanton and Jack Nance are in it so I don’t know what the haters are talking about.

  • Leaving Las Vegas (1995)
    Jul 19 2023

One of our themes this month is “Strange Love” and we’re getting a double dose of Uncle Nicky this week and why not sit down with the whole family and watch a movie where Nicholas Cage drinks himself to death while Elizabeth Shue watches? Yeah, we’re talking about the Mike Figgis movie “Leaving Las Vegas” from 1995. It also stars French Stewart, Aunt Jackie from “Roseanne”, Mister Ernst from “Hey Dude” and Lou Rawls as “Concerned Cabbie”. Sexy, sleazy and sad as shit. Just the way we like it. Now slurp this bourbon out of my navel.
