    Sep 24 2024
I am truly grateful to have Nevada Miller on today’s episode to share her insights on scaling a handmade business. In this episode Nevada gives tips for when you’re first starting your business, three ways to diversify your offerings, and advice when you’re first getting into trade work. This episode is filled with inspiration and wisdom from Nevada as she’s scaled her business and is teaching others how to do the same. Nevada is a silversmith, engraver, maker, entrepreneur, ranch wife, western trade instructor and mother. She wears many different hats at her home in southeastern Oregon. Her entrepreneurial spirit started at a young age growing up in California. She also shares an announcement that her Be A Maker School is launching a business course, The Business of Making, on October 1st. This course is designed for the maker that wears all the hats in the business. From pricing and marketing to invoicing, processes and so much more, multiple experts in western trades will provide you with information everyone wishes they had known before they started their business. • 69. Having the Courage to Create Something New with Melissa Grimmel Schaake
    Sep 17 2024
I’m excited to have Melissa Grimmel Schaake on this week’s episode! Originally from Maryland, she was raised on a multi-generational grain operation with a passion for livestock and a strong work ethic at a young age. She moved to the midwest to attend Kansas State University. Later, her and her husband, Shane, started a herd together before they even got married. They now proudly own and operate Grimmel Schaake Cattle Company in the Flint Hills of Kansas. As a first generation cattlewoman, it’s incredible that Melissa won the 2024 American Hereford Association’s Hereford Herdsman of the Year award. In this episode she shares how she started with herefords, how she stays focused on her “why”, and how she faces adversity with a strong family and friend support system. Melissa also talks about who they serve and how they achieve a superior customer experience. There’s so much wisdom Melissa leaves us to ensure we’re following how to be you, do you, for you. • 68. Are You Having Fun?
    Sep 10 2024
Today I want to talk about the importance of having fun. I share my son’s journey in rodeoing and going from the top in his age bracket, where he was very competitive, to the bottom of a new age bracket, where he’s up against some very handy, tough, and older boys. We take practice and being competitive very seriously in our family, but sometimes it’s a fine line between focusing so heavily on winning, that you can lose the element of fun while you do it. Having fun builds confidence and having confidence is what creates that competitive spirit. It all goes hand in hand. So often the things we love doing turn into a job and we lose the element of fun. External factors and stress creep in, and we lose the love because the fun is lost. This episode is a good reminder to ask yourself: are you having fun?
