A Fish out of Water – an #ecofriendly #syntopian #scifi #novel – Reading by Lawrence Anders.

Phi—who has yet to become Phi—is fished out of the water by the crew of the Sleepy Goat and their enigmatic Pretend Captain. They find him floating in the Mediterranean, the lone survivor of a ship sunk by pirates, though Phi’s former commanding officers blame him. Hunted by the Contract military, but suddenly free of the chip that all people of his kind have, this contract marine and brain doctor learns that these fishers are in fact Archangels, a clandestine group of modern Robin Hoods. Asked whether he’d wish to live the Northern Dream or join the Angels, the first real choice in his life, the answer is obvious.

So Phi goes off to the Angels’ not-so-secret base in Algiers, where he meets others like him, as well as Rubia—a loud-mouthed hypersentient bird. Together, they become the Pirate Hunters, vigilantes within a group of vigilantes, saving other hypers that are abused by their human masters and so upholding the original meaning of the Archangel creed. Yet an old enemy of the Angels, the pirates known as the Barbarossa Brotherhood, reappear in Benghazi after three decades, threatening to kill Rubia’s Pack and enslave humanity with a devastating new weapon. Was it the Brotherhood that sank Phi’s ship?

Set in a time when gen-life has replaced natural life, A Fish out of Water follows Phi as he fights pirates and learns an alternative history of the world in the past (next) three centuries. AFooW is the first of a planned seven books in Lawrence Ander’s synthtopian ecofantasy, A Garden of Earthly Delights, or, The Pirate Hunters.

These readings by Lawrence Anders will go through the manuscript, scene by scene. They are intended to gather an audience as he finishes his novel, planned for the end of 2021. That way he hopes to support his dream to become a published author.
