Karlis Zaid – Dost thou think, because thou art virtuous, there shall be no more cakes and ale?

  • Summary

  • Morry Frenkel speaks with Karlis Zaid, actor, director, singer, voice artist, and writer, about the Melbourne Shakespeare Company’s production of William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, currently playing at the Rose Garden in the St Kilda Botanical Gardens, Herbert Street, St Kilda. Karlis talks about director Jennifer Sarah Dean’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s comedy into a musical that keeps true to the original play, his role as Sir Toby Belch and the difficulty of acting (and singing and dancing!) in an outdoor setting when the audience is encouraged to bring a picnic hamper and drinks to the performance. For tickets, go to www.trybooking.com/events/landing/1254801. By the way Twelfth Night is on the 2025 VCE Syllabus - so this is a way to see the play in an unforgettable format.
