You can keep your dreams under wraps or unleash them into the world. For the musicians who comprise Dream Phases, holding back their musical visions has not been an option. Conceived in the private recesses of their L.A. home base, the band has expanded outwards by drawing upon the rich sonic heritage of West Coast pop/rock and skillfully reimagining it for the 21st Century. But beyond its finely wrought sound and texture, there’s an intensely personal quality to the work they create together. The dreams they explore transcend mere craft and calculation.
Emerging from the City of Angels’ neo-psychedelic rock scene in 2017, Dream Phases reflects California’s natural splendor and adventuresome inner spirit in its music. The earthy-yet-exalted sounds of the Byrds, the Beach Boys and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young – as well as latter-day artists like the Rain Parade, Elliott Smith and Autolux – figure into the band’s family tree. While this lineage is worth noting, what comes through in the band’s latest work is an individual approach that translates the experiences of its members into something undeniably compelling. Dream Phases’ initial flowering was as a solo project by Brandon. After gaining a wealth of experience working with such notable L.A.-area combos as Blank Tapes, the Relationship, Levitation Room and Nacosta, he decided to fully develop the songwriting side of his talents on his own. What began as a homebrewed project quickly turned into a collaborative stew as brother Shane and compadre Keveen helped him develop his compositions into a full-blown sound.

SMITH & THELL—Maria Smith [vocals, guitar] and Victor Thell [vocals, guitar, production]—have generated billions of streams, packed venues, and enraptured fans worldwide. Smith & Thell’s story began as teens in Sweden. Maria and Victor forged a friendship, fueling their creativity and collaboration. They enchanted audiences with the likes of Soulprints [2017], Pixie’s Parasol [2021], and Acoustic In Isby [2021]. Meanwhile, “Forgive Me Friend” [feat. On this weeks show I welcome Joseph Grillo (also known as Sid Jagger) of HER HEAD'S ON FIRE. Joe may be best know for his first band the fantastical post-hardcore outfit GARRISON. Since then Joe has kept busy, forming and playing in number of bands along the way, such as JUDAS KNIFE, I HATE OUR FREEDOM, and GAY FOR JOHNNY DEPP to name a few. In Joe's newest band he is joined Jeff Dean (The Bomb, guitar), Rodrigo Palma (Saves The Day, bass), and Jeff Gensterblum (Small Brown Bike and Able Baker Fox, drums) — it’s easy to see why Grillo is stoked on creating music again. This is a lineup loaded with deep experience in some of the most beloved emo and post–hardcore bands of the past three decades. “Supergroup” feels like a decidedly un–punk term, but it’s a descriptor that fits the band’s collective resume. Join Joe and as we discuss his wild journey through life and music.

Founded in Chula Vista, indie/alt Los Saints features all first-generation Mexican-Americans, including frontman Angel Mariscal, guitarist Gianluca Exposito, and drummer Emiliano Garcia. Los Saints is a fairly new operation. They released an EP, Welcome To Confusion, in 2022, and have now moved on to the long form. Their music is a melancholy sort of alt pop rock that tends to undulate.

The band's debut full-length Certified is due July 26, 2024 via ENCI Records, preceded so far by a single and video for "Faded" as well as singles for "Never Said," "If Everything Goes," and "Doctor."

STANDARDS is a two-piece math rock band fronted by guitarist Marcos Mena and featuring drummer Forrest Rice (mem. Covet). The pair boast a fruitful combination of musical chops and catchy guitar-driven melodies which has garnished popularity among fans who laud STANDARDS for their uniquely danceable brand of complex instrumental rock. Their self-described "fruity" melodies and technical musicianship have earned them somewhat of a cult following over the years, owed in part to Mena's proclivity for guitar-based video content.
