After receiving his BA in Political Science/Spanish at Brigham Young University, Tom continued his education with an MA in International Relations at the University of Southern California in Oxford, England. Tom served his country four years in the United States Air Force, where he received the Air Force Commendation Medal for meritorious service as the Non-commissioned Officer in Charge of the Target Materials Vault, Intelligence Division, 20th Tactical Fighter Wing.

Tom learned the importance of listening to people as part of his several years as a Reagan Administration appointee. He served in the Office of Congressional Relations at the US Department of Agriculture; as deputy director of a President Reagan Private Sector Initiative at the Department of Health and Human Services; and in the Office of Post-Secondary Education at the US Department of Education.

He also worked as Idaho Subbasin Planning Coordinator for the Northwest Power and Conservation Council.

Tom has also accomplished legislative, constituent and other duties for various members of the Idaho Congressional Delegation including Senators Symms, Kempthorne, Craig and McClure.

  • Sheriff Matt Clifford
    Aug 30 2024

Matt Clifford, who has been with the Ada County Sheriff’s Office since 2000, is now Ada County’s 39th sheriff.

Clifford was appointed by the Ada County Board of Commissioners about a month after the former sheriff retired suddenly on May 31, 2021.

The Ada County Sheriff is responsible for the largest law enforcement agency in the State of Idaho with over 800 employees and an over $100 million budget.

The sheriff’s duties include policing unincorporated Ada County and the cities of Eagle, Kuna and Star.

The sheriff is also responsible for managing the 1,116-bed Ada County Jail — and community supervision of about 2,000 offenders.

The sheriff is also responsible for Ada County Misdemeanor Probation, runs the county-wide 911 Emergency Dispatch Center and fulfills a variety of other statutory and cooperative duties.

Sheriff Clifford has worked as detention and patrol deputy, K9 handler, patrol sergeant, transports sergeant, and as a lieutenant who served as Chief of Eagle Police during his tenure with the ACSO before he assumed the role of sheriff.

Matt is humbled by the outpouring of support from family, friends, employees of the ACSO, and community members who supported his bid to be sheriff.

“I work every day to make Ada County a safer place to live, work, and play —and the support from the community is what makes it possible for the ACSO to overcome challenges and provide the best service to our citizens.

I am proud to be your sheriff.”

  • Riley Gaines- Athlete, Advocate, Woman
    Aug 23 2024

Riley Gaines is a leader defending women’s single-sex spaces, advocating for equality and fairness, and standing up for women’s safety, privacy, and equal opportunities.

Gaines graduated from the University of Kentucky, where she was a 12x All-American swimmer.

Riley has made waves for speaking out after tying UPenn’s Lia Thomas, a biological male swimmer on the women’s team, at the 2022 NCAA Division 1 Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships.

After Riley directly experienced competing against a man in women’s sports, being forced without warning or consent to undress before the fully intact male, and subjected to discrimination by the NCAA, she became one of the most powerful voices to speak out against the injustice, challenging the rules of the NCAA, USA Swimming, International Olympic Committee (IOC), and other governing bodies.

Riley now works for the leading women’s organization making real and lasting change, legally defining ‘woman,’ protecting Title IX, and defending women’s rights to single-sex spaces and equal opportunities. She has traveled the country speaking and has testified before the U.S. Senate, U.S. House, and countless state legislatures.
