    Red FM Celebrates Guts and Glory – Salute 71, we feature Major General Kuppanda Ponappa Nanjappa, AVSM, VrC, who commanded a company of the Kumaon Regiment and was assigned the task of capturing a well-fortified enemy camp along the East Pakistan border, which was a very vital operation. The officer led the troops with bravery, disregarding his own safety in the face of enemy fire, and was victorious, for which he was awarded the Vir Chakra. He recalls the surrender of 93,000 Pakistani soldiers on December 17, 1971, which contributed to the birth of a new nation.

During the 1971 India Pak war, as the Adjutant of the 2nd Parachute Battalion, Lt Gen Nirbhay Sharma was a part of  the sensational Airborne Assault, the Para Drop at Tangail. He was one of the first Indian soldiers to enter Dhaka, and make their way to Pakistan’s Commander, Lieutenant General AAK Niazi, carrying a message from the  Indian Major General Gandharv Nagra, subsequently leading to the Pakistani surrender.

    Red FM Celebrates Guts and Glory – Salute 71, we feature Brig. Baljit Singh Gill, VrC (Veteran), whose Post was attacked by 15 Pakistani soldiers during the 1971 India Pak war. Brig. Gill was shot twice on his left foot, before being evacuated. The trousers from his uniform were stained in blood, and till today he has kept both the bullets and his blood stained trousers as souvenirs !
