Jacob was cooking venison stew one day with some of the vegetables he had grown. His brother Esau came up and it smelled so good to him. Being a known Outdoorsman he had been out walking the land and feeling especially famished. He asked his brother for some of the stew. His brother looking doubtful--ughh, I don't know I only cooked so much. Please give me some of that stew! Jacob shrewdly baited him, 'How about your birthright, I'll give as much as you want. Even the whole pot, if you want. Esau flippantly, Sure, you can have it. Jacob, 'Have what?" 'You can have my birthright blessing! Just give me that stew before I starve.'

Gehazi was sitting there talking with the king. He was reminiscing about the exploits of faith of Elisha the prophet. He had told the king many of them. Then he starts talking about how this woman had her son restored to life. She came to get him. It was obvious that something wrong but she wasn’t telling anyone. I had tried to head her off before she got to the Prophet–trying to see what was wrong. She just headed toward the Prophet with a stern look on her face. He sees her and says it’s o.k. let her come to me. She drops to her knees and tells him. He drops everything and follows her back to her house in a hurry…just as he’s finishing up the story, he looks up and sees the woman seeking an audience with the King to ask for her lands back after the famine. He exclaims! Here she is right now with her son, she can tell you everything. The King interested looks to see and starts asking questions. She answers every one of them.

For us the modern day believer, we can know that God’s view toward us through Christ is unchanging. We are co-heirs with Christ of the blessing and benefits of God promises. They are always yes and amen to those who believe. So to get started building your faith about Father God’s immutability in your life, remember it’s an immutable fact that in blessing, He will bless you and in multiplying he will multiply you. He swore to Abraham by Himself (for he had nothing else higher to sware by) We are co-heirs of the promise through Christ. He is our anchor of hope–something we can be sure of in this world and the one to come.

Why should I read my Bible (the Word of God) more? It is a relevant question being asked by Christians all over. Usually while looking or glancing guiltily at the Bible on the nightstand, table or for some of us for too long in the drawer or closet. Well, no more guilt! There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Like we covered last time, get started small. Start where you are with a daily Bible reading plan or simply start with the Gospels, set a goal and keep going to keep growing in Christ.
