  • 623. BREAKDOWN: Daniel Saavedra-Arreola Shot By Police

    Daniel Saavedra-Arreola was hiding from Albuquerque Police this past January in a vacant building. Officers found him inside a closet, and he came out swinging a knife and a pipe. Officers responded with deadly forces and Saavedra-Arreola did not survive. Police officers knew a suspect was there-- they are seen on cameras calling out for him in the apartment, his exact location unknown, to show himself and surrender peaceably. An officer was almost injured, and a taser was deployed before more lethal force, but to no effect. Now the video cam footage has been released but the state's attorney hasn't decided yet whether or not to charge the four officers involved-- leaving them to be judged instead by the court of public opinion, all of whom may form an actual jury later.
