Dear Bellamy,
I want to ask you about Glamour Magick. I heard this term recently, it resonated with me, but yet, I don’t know much about it. It is my understanding that to put a “glamour” on someone, is to make them see a person or an object as something that they are not. I feel like I do this, unintentionally, on a daily basis. See, my fashion style is what some would call eclectic. When I step out into the world wearing these items, I feel exotic and daring. But in reality, underneath it all I feel pretty small. I am projecting this strong confident image, but this is my glamour to the world. My specific question is, am I using this glamour as a crutch? Sometimes I feel like I am deceiving myself and others by portraying a persona that isn’t my true self. It almost feels like I am using these costumes and makeup to protect my soft squishy persona inside. Is it helping me to be the strong and confident person I want to be? I feel like I am a long way off from feeling the way my clothing projects. How would you suggest I approach glamour? I'm missing something.
In this compelling episode, host Bellamy Black sits down with Alder (they/them), a glamour magic practitioner, to explore the transformative power of personal aesthetics. Join us as we delve into the world of glamour magic, where clothes, makeup, tattoos, piercings, and hairstyles become tools for both concealment and empowerment. Alder shares their journey with glamour magic and how it has evolved over time, highlighting the ways we can use our appearance to shape perceptions and influence how we are perceived.
The discussion covers the role of fashion, makeup, tattoos, and piercings in self-expression, offering practical tips for incorporating glamour magic into everyday life. We also explore the unique ways goth culture embraces and utilizes glamour magic, providing a powerful means of self-expression and identity.
A significant portion of the episode addresses how personal trauma and experiences of abuse have shaped our use of glamour magic. Alder and Bellamy discuss healing and reclaiming power through intentional self-presentation, sharing inspiring stories of transformation and empowerment through aesthetic choices.
