    You might be like most of our community - looking for ways to stay healthy while stuck at home during quarantine. So, in this ~45 minute episode, we talk about creative ways you can build a healthy plate! Building habits to keep your plate healthy while traveling starts at home. We are huge advocates for being healthy at home FIRST in order to stay healthy while traveling. So, we’ve broken this episode into two themes:

    Part 1 - Creating a healthy plate at home
    Part 2 - Building a healthy plate while traveling

    Here are some notes from the show:

    • Stick to the outside of the store. We joke around that we should always have a jacket with us when we are doing grocery shopping. Stick to the coolers, the foods that require refrigeration, not the items in the middle of the store that can sit on the shelf for years.
    • Don’t go hungry to the grocery store.
    • Make a list.
    • Avoid Marketing Mayhem (deceitful marketing tactics that retail stores use to get you to purchase things you don’t need):
      • Cryptic labeling (“organic”, “reduced fat”, “gluten-free”){SIFT}
      • Colors
      • Position in the store has nothing to do with the quality of the product, everything to do with who is paying the highest dollar for shelf space.
      • Impulse purchases near the exits
      • The Costco effect (giant carts)
