Episode 006 - The Red and The Lines

  • Summary

  • Redlining. What a strange term evoking an antiquated way of thinking, or, on the other hand, evoking nothing, because you have no idea what it is.

But what the heck does redlining have to do with disaster and climate anyway?

Surprisingly (or unsurprisingly, as it may be for some), redlining and disinvestment have had serious consequences for the severity and frequency of disasters, as well as the disproportionate impacts of climate change, experienced by communities of color across the United States.

The what and the why are what we’re getting into this week, on Globally Heated!

Content warning: Given recent police killings and ongoing violence perpetrated by law enforcement around the country, we want to let you know ahead of time that this episode includes a discussion of racism, systematic discrimination, and institutionalized inequity. If you're not in a space to listen to that right now, that's completely understandable. We hope everyone is doing what they need to do to stay as safe and healthy as possible right now.
