EP 21: Black History Spotlight: The Black Man Who Perfected the Light Bulb: Lewis Latimer

  • Summary

  • 💡 Meet the Black Man Who Perfected the Light Bulb: Lewis Latimer 💡

They told you Thomas Edison invented the light bulb, but what they DIDN’T tell you is that without Lewis Latimer, it wouldn’t have lasted long enough to be useful.

    🔥 Who was Lewis Latimer?

✔️ A self-taught engineer & inventor who improved the carbon filament in Edison’s light bulb, making it longer-lasting, more efficient, and affordable for everyday use.

✔️ The man behind modern street lighting, helping cities across the U.S. and beyond light up their roads.

✔️ The brains behind Alexander Graham Bell’s telephone patent—yes, he played a major role in the invention of the telephone, too!

Yet, his name was almost erased from history. Edison got the credit, but Latimer was the reason the light bulb became practical for everyday people.

🚨 This is why we have to tell OUR history. They’ll teach Edison, but not Latimer. They’ll teach Bell, but not the Black genius who helped make it happen.
