  • Episode 16:Female Founders in the VC Ecosystem
    Mar 16 2024

In this episode of Money Maven Mamacita's "VC for La Cultura" series, we take a closer look at the latest "US All In: Female Founders in the VC Ecosystem" report, sponsored by Deloitte, Pivotal Ventures, and Wilson Sonsini. The report reveals that female founders and co-founders secured a record-breaking 27.8% of US VC deal value in 2023, marking a significant milestone in the venture capital landscape.

Despite the overall decline in venture market activity, female entrepreneurs have made impressive strides, with their share of deal value reaching an all-time high. Even when excluding OpenAI's massive $10 billion raise, female founders still accounted for 22.8% of US VC capital raised.

Although the absolute number of deals secured by female founders decreased by 25.0% due to market conditions, the report highlights a positive trend in the representation of women at the highest levels of venture capital firms. The share of female check writers at the largest VC firms grew slightly to 17.4%, indicating progress towards gender diversity in decision-making roles.

In this episode, we delve into the significance of these findings and discuss what they mean for the future of female entrepreneurship. We explore the challenges faced by women in the venture capital ecosystem and the strategies that can be employed to further support and empower female founders.
