Maura Cook, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Development, and Patrick McGloin, President, Westland Public Relations and Chair, Advocacy Committee at United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut, talk to Steve about how they are working to end poverty. Cook mentioned the strategic planning process, which includes 40 interviews with community members over the last two years. These conversations have solidified the United Way's position to promote change and adovcate for their community members. McGloin continued the conversation with the upcoming developments the United Way is planning for the youth in these communities. In 2025, the United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut has these priorities for 2025: Young adult employment Early childhood literacy (ages birth to five) They are advocating for more investments in education and training services for opportunity youth, are also advocating for $500,000 per year from the state’s budget to support early childhood literacy.
