In this Season 1 Finale dropping the week of the national title game between Ohio State and Alabama, we go back 25 years to another #1 vs #2 matchup. Both Nebraska and Florida came into the 1996 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl undefeated although they achieved their dominance in different ways. Nebraska had a strong running game led by QB Tommie Frazier and I-Back Lawrence Phillips while Florida had QB Danny Wuerffel and his talented WR corps leading coach Steve Spurrier's "Fun N Gun". Even reminiscing on this game 25 years later and seeing Nebraska's dominant performance, it's clear why this Cornhusker team is widely regarded as perhaps the greatest college football team of all time.

In a makeup that was originally scheduled for earlier in the season but moved due to a tropical storm, UCLA brought the #2 team in the country to the Orange Bowl to face an up and coming Miami Hurricanes program. The Canes were coming off a blowout loss to Syracuse but Butch Davis had the pieces together for a solid re-build. Edgerrin James ran for a school record 299 yards leading to a Miami upset and knocked UCLA out of the hunt for a national championship.

Even though this series is currently on hiatus, no series reminds me of Thanksgiving weekend more than the Texas Longhorns playing their in-state rivals, the Texas A&M Aggies. My first exposure to this series was in 1995 where I remember watching them play for the final Southwest Conference Title on Friday afternoon of Thanksgiving weekend. Texas ended up prevailing 16-6, snapping an era of dominance in the series by Texas A&M.
