  • E251: Dorothy Miller
    Nov 21 2024

In Bethel, New York, from August 15th through the 18th, 1969, roughly half a million people had gathered to celebrate what was touted as “3 Days of Peace and Music” that we now refer to with a single word: Woodstock. But around a thousand mile away, in the staid community of Burlington, Iowa, life kept its slower pace, children played across the city’s 200 acres of manicured parks and residents sat on their front porches (just as I used to do with my grandma) and chatted with neighbors, talked about the weather, or just watched the sky fade to beautiful sunset hues. It was a town where the now seemingly lost art of leisure was still thriving.

Sadly, that peace would be short-lived, as the town was about to be rocked by a crime that would shake the community to its core and leave its residents (as well as law enforcement) in disbelief. This is the case of Dorothy Miller.

This case was a collaboration between Allison and Charlie from Crimelines. Be sure to check out the Crimelines podcast if you value both extensive, ethical, and empathetic coverage. Nov 8 2024

Eleven-year-old Shannon Paulk was excited to visit with her friends and neighbors in the Candlestick Mobile Home Park in Prattville, Alabama on August 16th, 2001 after spending much of the summer away with family. She wanted to see friends and visit neighbors’ animals. Many neighbors recall seeing or speaking with the friendly Shannon that morning. Then, Shannon was gone, and those same friends and neighbors are still searching for answers.

Love the hosts and the stories!

The hosts have a real connection not only to each story but to each other as well. There is banter but for the most part it is not overdone. They have a real desire for these cold cases to be solved or at least kept in the public eye. A really great podcast worth subscribing to.

Our Favorite True Crime Podcast!

These ladies are awesome. My daughters and I love listening to this podcast. The girls are equally knowledgeable and entertaining. My biggest draw at first was the lack of profanity, which is hard to find with true crime, but now we are true fans of these two well matched friends.
