  • Is Technology Failing Us? - August 2 2023
    Aug 3 2023

Welcome to episode 35 of the journey. It’s been a while. 😃

Ever tried to close a store account and felt like you were trying to escape a labyrinth? Join me as I share my personal and rather frustrating experience with modern technology that's supposed to simplify life but often complicates it.

This is a bit of a rant after a particularly frustrating experience. There are also positives, though, so stick around.

  • Post-MVP Challenges And Throw Away Code - July 22 2023
    Jul 22 2023

Welcome to day 34 of the journey. It’s been a while. 😃 It is not that I did not have the time to record, but that I would not have had the time to publish. I am also not sure whether I will post daily going forward. I am thinking maybe twice per week, and then some extra episodes here and there.

I am deep into the weeds of learning Python, Django, Django Ninja, and Pydantic. It’s fun, and I always wanted to learn Python properly, but there is a bit of a push and pull when you are learning on the client’s time. This means I need to be mindful of how many hours I bill, as I cannot bill a client for the time I spend learning the language and tools. Am I wrong? I would love to know your thoughts.

    Jul 22 2023

Welcome to day 33 of the journey. In this episode, I discuss some of the challenges faced when building an MVP, the notion of throw-away code, and how often the "throw-away" code becomes the code you need to maintain.

  • End Of The Week Check-In - July 16 2023
    Jul 16 2023

Welcome to day 31 of the journey. I will post the two episodes I recorded but haven't posted yet and post ALL of the episodes on Transistor so you can subscribe to this as a podcast anywhere.

After that, I must clean up my email and respond to long overdue emails. I also want to set up some learning paths for myself with actual dates and times. I feel like I've neglected my learning, and don't like that.

After that, I'll work on the Rosarium and email the lead developer about some front-end cleanup and simplification. I've realized that there is a lot of complexity we should prioritize to simplify and clean up.

I also want to identify critical paths and ensure there are proper tests for those critical paths. Finally, I need to work on ArticSidekick. I've neglected that project, and that needs to stop.

I'm feeling a bit under the weather, probably from all the late nights and early mornings. I'm being mindful of that and giving myself breaks to rest.

That's about it for today. Tomorrow is Monday! Load shedding has been reduced to stages two and four, which is much better—no more four-hour-long load-shedding blocks.

I'll talk to you tomorrow for reals!
