Kinetra Stewart has known she wanted to be a hairstylist since she was 9 years old. Her grandmother wanted something more stable for her grandchild, so Kinetra waited for something to move her the way the way styling hair did. Declaring 5 different majors at Grambling State University, grinding through a slew of unfulfilling retail jobs, mounting debt, and a career in the military that required inconsistently consistent relocation with her new family finally led Kinetra to enroll in cosmetology school.

Business was so good for that she created her business, The Vintage Hipster, which allowed her to grow into an award-winning stylist in the northeast. A move to Austin, TX required her to dig into market research to find her niche, earning the trust of Black women who had traumatic hair experiences. Kinetra has expanded her reach through her “Hair What I’m Saying” Podcast, which aims to bridge the gap of understanding between beautypreneurs and consumers.
