Doug Wilber. CEO, Cherished Companions shares his thoughts on how the Recession will affect Home Care and the need for assistance from paid and non-paid caregivers (family or close friends). The need for home care is evidence based as aging adults prefer to remain in their home rather in care facility. As the state of Ohio moves to a homecare licensure program we must do a thorough and intensive look at who we have coming into the home to care for our loved ones.

Doug Wilber shares preparing for a STROKE...
Signs and Symptoms of a Stroke
How to recognize a stroke? Just remember to B.E.F.A.S.T.:

B is for Balance: Does the person have a sudden loss of balance?
E is for Eye: Has the person lost vision in one or both eyes?
F is for Face: Does the person’s face look uneven?
A is for Arm: Is one arm hanging down?
S is for Speech: Is the person’s speech slurred? Does the person have trouble speaking or seem confused?
T is for Time: Call 911 now!

Stroke recovery often includes Physical and Occupational Therapy - this is a must to regain muscle tone as well as strengthening the areas that have been affected and weakened. If you or your loved one can remain at home and receive these care services this may be more beneficial for some for the recovery process.

Home care can be customized for the individuals needs and for many it is a smoother transition for improvement and recovery.

Researchers identify that elderly adults recover faster, with fewer complications, at home than in a hospital or in a facility. With home health care, patients can get help managing their medications, meal prep, shopping assistance, as well as other daily tasks they can no longer do independently. T
Home care is noted to be less expensive as well as providing the elderly to adjust to their physical and or medical needs in the comfort of their home.

  • Care Notes Your Role as a Caregiver with Doug Wilber, Mary & Karen 1_19_22
    Jan 19 2022
Doug Wilber welcomes Mary and me (Karen) to share in the discussion as to what is your role as a caregiver. Not all caregivers provide the same services whether they are hired on or family and friends. Each individual brings their best to the center, that being the person who needs care, parent, spouse, sibling, child, etc. Family dynamics may change before, during, and after caregiving is no longer needed. If the focus is on the wants and needs of the person - you will be doing your best to transition them at this very sensitive time.

As a caregiver, you are responsible for the health and well-being of someone who needs help with daily tasks and activities. The individual may need a caregiver because of an injury, mobility or memory issues, illnesses, or chronic conditions that make everyday chores more challenging.

Today Doug Wilber welcomes Arron Stapleton. https://www.queencityhc.com/about-us/ Aaron like Doug chose to work in the home health care field as not only did they see a need but they have a passion for living life fully and that includes assisting others when they cannot do all the things they once did. Most older adults are choosing to live their life out at home and if that means caregiving at home - that is what they want. Residential Facilities may be beautiful but they are costly and they just are not home where the memories and love have permeated. Aaron and Doug are both involved in organizations that assist in setting up regulations for the homecare industry to protect the elderly as well as their families counting on Home Care. Listen to this podcast - feel free to contact Aaron or Doug with your thoughts or questions.

  • Doug Wilber_Care Notes_Discussing the COVID Variant with Karen Hale 7_29_21

All podcasts are designed to assist and aid listeners to meet their challenges in life. We are here to support each other...
Doug Wilber, CEO of Cherished Companions, and I talk about the lingering Pandemic and the SCIENTIFIC need to wear a mask. It is important that we understand the concept of mask-wearing, WE are preventing others from germs/the virus that we may be carrying unknowingly. Yes, we are all tired of this disease and the need to protect each other but it is essential until the majority of the herd (that is us) are vaccinated and the likelihood of getting deathly ill from the variant is minuscule. The CDC has revised the guidelines and recommends that when in a large indoor crowd or even in a large outdoor crowd to protect others from the possibility that you may be a carrier of what could be deadly to an unvaccinated individual.
