Blur Colors Series | Felipe De Vicente

  • Summary

  • BLUR COLORS is a series by the artist Felipe De Vicente, which aims to deal mainly with the chromatic issue and color theory, through the superimposition of concentric circles of the same color in a white pictorial space.

The concentric colored circles lose color and gain luminosity, until a supposed halo, the result of a visual effect, forms around them, giving the work an ethereal character.

Colors seem to float and inhabit dreamlike or celestial spaces. There is a great game of illusion and truth, provoked by the ethereal and numinous questions evoked by the works.

We can see in this series a great influence of the minimalist movement, as well as the works made with fluorescent lamps, by the artist Dan Flavin, and the works produced with neon gas, due to the issue of luminosity and the golden arc caused by them. The issue of numinosity, on the other hand, brings us to the Color Field style, in the grandiose and contemplative works of Mark Rothko, where color is freed from context and becomes the subject itself.
